Hi all... long time reader first time posting...I'm a long time LPN currently going to school working towards my RN but I have only worked in LTC facilities and most recently on a Rehab Unit that is part of a skilled LTC facility..I want to do something different and was looking into working in a prison.. but I want to know what the pay and benefits are like? do they hire nurses with no previous prison experience? A few places I am looking at are PHS and CMS.. anyone know what its like to work for either of these? Do they have relocation, or education assistance? sorry for all the questions..I just want to know if it would be a good move to make... I am burned out in LTC.

Thanks.

Hi,

A friend of mine that is an RN worked in corrections for a few years and liked it although I don't really know the particulars. Hopefully others will write. Jules

You might check into the correctional nurses forum. I don't know much. I have a friend that is an LPN @ a max prison. But she was a guard before that. So that makes it a little easier on her since they already know her. I couldn't do it. Gawd the stories she tells!

I absolutely love Corrections. It's my PRN job. I use to work it full time before my present job. It's easy and it will allow you time to study. Check out the Correctional Nursing forum.

yes... come on over to the corrections forum.. there is much to learn there.. welcome:welcome:

I live in southern michigan and have had a couple of RN's that i know go into corrections- Loving IT! They needed basic med-surg w/ 1yr overall experience. I don't know much about LPN's doing corrections. i would check into staffing agencies, they usually have better luck getting your resume in the right hands.
