How in the world i will ge experience if no one want to give me a job...How in the world i make this people realize that i really want the job, that i will do everything for it, that i will be a good hard worker, that be a nurse is what i really love, that i dont want to work in the retail anymore.... Please help me..tell me how you guys get your first job.... :angryfire:crying2:

Awesome mum or whatever you call yourself. The poor girl is complaining that she can’t not get a job and all you can suggest if for her to go and see a speech therapist... You must have limited exposure in life to assume everybody must write and speak English frequently. Hello, people speak French, Yoruba, and Spanish etc. and still pass Nclex.

Wowza. Sometimes, it's better to close the browser than reply to posts that emotionally affect you.

Having poor spoken English is a huge turn off for most jobs that involves face-to-face customer service.

At least, it was a big issue for my old job when we were interviewing people and we couldn't understand what they were trying to say. I was one of the interviewers, alongside my boss. We usually wouldn't go so far as to interview people with poor grammar skills, but our job also entailed customer service via email.

None of that had anything to do with race.

I haven't seen this person's other posts, so I'm only trying to address the issue of understandable English in customer service.

may be you should read the original post. it is not okay to call someone an idiot but it is okay to recommend speech therapy for someone if they can't speak or write good english. not speaking good english or writing good grammar is not a disability under the america disability act. l know this is your country and we are foreigners are expected to speak basic english but when we make mistake you people treat us as if we have sin against god.

l bet if you go to france or a foreign country you can't write french or speak it. l don't except you to employ someone who can't speak good english if you are in customer service business. it is your business and you decide who you want to employ.

Do not be discouraged into giving up. Not many people can start their career in a hospital. RNs have a better chance at this. You should consider applying at Long Term Care facilities. Many people get their first job at nursing homes. You don't have to stay there forever. You can get experience and look elsewhere. But at least you would be working and making more money than in retail. Good luck.

Bolivian nurse I hope you didn't take offense as to my suggestion of seeing a speech therapist. Often times an accent that may be difficult to understand can impede your ability to be employed in your dream job. Several MD's and nurses I have worked with from other countries have benefited greatly from a few visits with a speech therapist. It helped with being able to understand them and made them more comfortable with speaking English. It was actually amazing the difference in their speech in just a few short weeks! Since we are on the web it is impossible to know if this is really a problem in this area, and was meant as a suggestion to a possible barrier to employment.

As far as grammar and writing skills I think some improvement in this area is needed. Having good writing skills is crucial to charting, which could be a problem after reading your post. Have a friend check over your resume and application for jobs for accuracy if needed. And don't overlook private duty nursing jobs--they can keep you active in the medical field. Even a job in a doctor's office or urgent care will help keep your skills up to date.

Check with former classmates too, and your instructors to see if they can help you get your foot in the door. And good luck, it's a tough time to go job hunting.

maybe i should mention that speech therapy is actually common for people that are learning to speak english as a second language. speech therapy isn't always for people that have disabilities. i think you are taking it as an insult, which it was not meant to be. it was meant as constructive criticism to better improve communication skills.

... l bet if you go to france or a foreign country you can't write french or speak it...

i probably wouldn't move there unless i was fluent. :D

ps. nursing is a customer service industry. communication is a big part of it, hence the suggestion that the op is getting.

l have nothing more to say on this topic. misinterpretations of words

bye and good luck

I also say that you should consider the nursing home. You will be able to master medication administration, insulin coverage, dressings, G-tubes, suctioning, and probably become more comfortable with it in case a hospital position arises. I also say this because in hospitals, you may have less patients than the nursing home, but the pace is much faster. Orders are changing more often. At least you would gain the confidence in the basic skills; otherwise, the longer you stay away from the bedside, the harder it would be to do ANYTHING.

It's hard to get into hospital as a new lpn. I'm a new lpn and have worked in hospitals before, but am working my first lpn job in long term care. I know you want hospital, but everyone has to start somewhere and you may have to gain 1 or 2 yrs in long term care before looking to hospital. Good luck to you!

Thanks a lot for all your advices. I have to reconize that my grammar is not good and my english neither. But i will improve that, taking a English class. I never going to give up, hey! when i came to this country i did not know a word of English and look at me know 5 years later, I am speaking, writting and even have a proffesion, so I think I can improve this weekness. I am a warrior. I do not know if i will go to a speach terapist, one: because i do not have the money to pay one and two: because my husband who is a american guy who does not speak any spanish think my accent is very sexy. :blushkissAnyways i also want to let you guys know that i just get a phone call and guess what i have a job interview this week, wish me luck....God bless you all
