LPN Tuition-how much did you pay?

Hi there,

I've just started my LPN program in a moderately populated town. The total cost for me was $13,500. (books, labs, uniforms....) (I didn't get any loans, saved over the years.....) Were your fees comparible? I feel like it was quite expensive for a 2 1/2 year program.

Side note, apparently we'll be taught to run IV lines.....something new added to the course i believe...

If u go to a private school (Americare, etc.) it is outrageous. I am in a 12 month program at a tech school. The program is only 3300 including books and uniforms. I got a need based scholarship(since I went from full time to part time employment) which paid for all except books and uniforms.

From my understanding the norm here is 12 months for full time programs and 18 months for part time. I would think if it were a 2 year program it would have to be an associates degree. But the bright side is if it takes two years in your program they arent stuffing all the information in your head all at once:) maybe that way its not so overwhelming that way.

When I took the LPN program a few years ago at Norquest in Edmonton, the tuition was $1200, plus books and uniforms of course, which probably added about another thousand. I remember being surprised at how cheap it was. I know it's now $4100 just for the tuition, with all the extras on top of that. My program was 13 months with a couple of weeks off between each semester. We learned how to manage/monitor IV's and give subcutaneous injections but I see they're now learning how to do IM injections as well. I would have preferred it if it had been 2 years long because it just seemed like there was too much jammed in to a realtively short time period. It all happened so fast!

In Ontario, the RPN programs have just recently changed to a 2 year diploma, so I'd imagine other provinces will probably change to that eventually too. 2.5 years does seem long, but you are paying a lot of money, so maybe you do get extra time for clinical or just being able to learn at a less hectic pace, which would be great. You should get some added benefits at that price. Good for you, saving up all that money! I hope you really enjoy your program ! :)

HOLY COW! That's a lot! Here's the breakdown from North Carolina (for me any way)

I got my mine's free from my army reserve unit when the Presidio was still an army base in San Francisco. My other option was JC for just $13 per unit back in the day.

I feel sorry for anyone paying more than $700 (JC college tuition, white uniform, books, etc) to be an LVN/LPN. Ripoff!!!!!!!!!

I think the total is $3,000 for my program, that includes NCLEX application and testing fee. It's 18 months of just nursing classes (A&P, english, ect must be done before you even apply) but we get the entire summer off and three weeks in the winter. Basically it's three semseters.
