Hi there,
I've just started my LPN program in a moderately populated town. The total cost for me was $13,500. (books, labs, uniforms....) (I didn't get any loans, saved over the years.....) Were your fees comparible? I feel like it was quite expensive for a 2 1/2 year program.
Side note, apparently we'll be taught to run IV lines.....something new added to the course i believe...
I'm in Ontario, Canada & I attend the PN program at a University (McMaster) it's a joint program, two years.
Tuition is $3800/year.
Books roughly $500/year.
Rent: $3200/year.
I do have to move out to attend, so I pay rent as well, so in total once I graduate, i'll owe around $20,000. I also took a pre-health one semester course before PN.
Once we graduate we have many options to decrease our student loan amount, also the Practical Nurses Association (RPNAO) of Ontario gives us $2000 upon graduation to put towards out outstanding student loans.
I think it's worth it, here in the Toronto area RPN's start at $25/hour at most of the big city hospitals, Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Scarborough, etc. There's only two hospitals that pay less, and that's North York, at $22/hour.
The Nursing home I currently work at as a PSW/HCA, pays RPN's $27/hour to start. Although we max out at alot less than RN's, it's still a very comfortable living.
$2,500.....includes, books, tuition, uniforms, testing, background check/drug test. I am attending Merritt College in Oakland, CA. I just found out that the VA hospital in Palo Alto is hiring new grad LVN's starting at $44,000 a year so I am pumped! My program is 18 months long with summers off, so that is not to bad.
WOW
You guys and gals have it really easy as far as the cost. I am in the San Francisco Bay area and it is going to cost me $33,000 at a private catholic college. Although IV cert is included(if that makes a difference). I did however qualify for more than $10,000 in grants due to me being laid-off. Its amazing how a geographical area makes such huge difference in cost.
IV Cert is a good thing, because I have to obtain my certification on my own after I graduate. It is going to cost me $300, but I have been told that it is an assest to getting a job in a hospital. What private school are you attending?
Hello Christine2009
I am Attending St.Francis College. It is a great small atmosphere where some of the staff are nuns. I am not a Catholic but it is a religous setting. We dont where Scrubs, we all wear the same uniforms and once we go to clinical we where the White dress with the old style nursing hats(lol). The professors are really nice and help you with anything you need. It is a great school and I plan on staying for their LPN-RN program in 2011.

I really thought that you could get a Life Status Degree which is not true. The Degree do not serve you no good because the Colleges or Universities is not accredited with the Michigan Board Of Nursing. I called myself after I did everything to take the Exam. The SMART thing to do is called b4 you start a distance learning to see if they are accredited. I will start a LPN class in January. September 8th is when I go for preparation
