Specializes in SNF, 2 year s hospital.

where i live the technical programs are offering more LPN programs, however i work in a hospital and they arent hiring anymore LPNs :( I often wonder the same thing but I hope it doesnt happen

I was first told in the early 1980's that they were going to get rid of all LPN'S. It's just a false rumor that has been around for many many years.

Just search the multiple and frequent threads on this very topic.

Specializes in Wound Care, LTC, Sub-Acute, Vents.

never. maybe in hospital settings yeah but there are other places you can work as an lpn e.g. ltc, rehab, psych, md office, home health, hospice, etc...

Specializes in LTC, Memory loss, PDN.

Don't buy any ocean front property from your friend. :D

Specializes in Med Surg.

This one seems to make the rounds two or three times a month. I always put in in the same category as Bigfoot, Elvis sightings, and the guy who said "I'm from the government and I'm here to help you."

Hi. I started as an LPN almost 8 years ago and they said they were doing away with them at that time. They were going to use medical assistants. Never happened. Im an RN now and sometimes find it harder to work agency as an RN than it was as an LPN. There were more needs in the LTC facilities passing meds.

Dont think its going to happen.

Best wishes.

That rumor was going around 30 years ago when I was in school. Most jobs-hospitals, LTC, ALF, doctors offices, etc wouldn't survive if they did away with LPNs. :smokin:

Been hearing this in the midwest for over 25 years now. Still plenty of LPN positions here!! In fact, here they are using LPN's in Med Surg now b/c it is cheaper to hire LPN's, also plenty of positions in clinic settings, and of course LTC.
