  1. On a side note, what is an "exclusive contract"? Meaning what you promise not to work with another company within so much time? I am considering Supplemental Healthcare. Out of everyone I talked to they seem to have the most take home pay..not sure. Havent talked to them all. That will take awhile. haha
  2. Thats a joke!!!! Psych or not! I cant believe they would even insult you with that offer. I didnt read the replies or see how long ago this was posted, I just stopped short at the wage.Crazy.
  3. It never gets better either. Ive all but given up. This career sucks. The doctors, the cattiness, the long hours, the horrible patients...its terrible. I owe a ton of money for nursing school and wish to God I had picked something else. I dont recommend anyone go into this field. I am looking to get into something else asap. Thinking of Pharmaceutical sales. Walmart is looking good right about now....
  4. I am now in orientation after a long hard job search. I worked agency to give me income because I could not get on staff anywhere...in 3 states! I was an LPN for almost 7 years, worked in all 3 states also. Have extensive experience in med surg, telemetry,LTC,psych etc. Once I graduated...I was told I could work as an LPN but couldnt find any RN work. So I turned back to the agencies I had worked for as an LPN and did whatever I could. Daytona Beach FL was the worst, they cried nursing shortage so bad to the media but wouldnt hire anyone with less than 18 months experience as an RN. Also, I worked agency for years now. As an LPN I was making more than I am now as an RN for the local hospital. My cousin is graduating from a votech school in March and has a job waiting in a county home making more than I am!
  5. My kids are grown and I am not a "kid" person...I know that sounds mean...but its true. I love my boys more than the world but I do not want to hear about the wonderful witty things your 2 year old said while he was going potty or how many outfits your little girl had to try on so she'd be the cutest little thing at the play....I also dont want to see all the pics. I know, I sound mean, really I am not. The conversations just bore me to tears! I would love to walk around the corner and confront the lazy staff member that complains that agency is lazy, meanwhile she has spent 45 minutes gossiping at the nurses desk, while I am running around like a nut and havent had a break since I started 8 hours earlier. Just once Id love to say" If your organization could get rid of lazy people like you, they wouldn't need us" or simply "no wonder no one wants to work here." Also, I smile all the time, or try to. In passing, in conversation, I try to be pleasant no matter what I am thinking inside, I would love one time to say to the woman that eats nails for breakfast,"just because your ugly doesnt mean your personality has to be too".... Lastly..."yes you made it through med school now if you only had common sense" God couldnt we all go on and on and on.
  6. Im licensed in Pa, Fl and Sc. Sc being part of the compact but my license also only says for the state of Sc. I was told once I apply for my renewal it will be a compact. Not sure though.
  7. Well, I am sitting here waiting to go to my pre-employment physical....Isnt it amazing how we as nurses are expected not to experience any kind of pain or anxiety???? I have a valid perscription for vicodin. I also have one for tramadol. Ive had them for prob 4 years now. They dont get me high or make me drowsy. However they do allow me to function without being in so much pain that I cant think straight. I am deathly allergic to aspirin and ibuprofen. I can only take tylenol and how much tylenol would I have to eat to fix my lower back and migraines???? Id O.D.lol Heres the problem, if you admit you have chronic back pain, well...from doing your job...they dont want you. If you dont admit to the meds, they dont want you..and if you do admit to the meds, they dont want you. lol. I have layed off the pills for the last 2 days and drank so much water i pee clear. lol. Not that it will completely take the meds out of my system, but it will give me a barely there reading. After that, its up to me to down play why I take them...could use recent fall, just perscribed etc.... I get horrible headaches and cramps around the time of my period, which is not regular..thats my excuse. You cant say "back pain", you cant say "migraines"....because then they think..long term problem with call offs. I cant remember when my back started hurting or when I first went to a chiropractor...Ive been doing this almost 9 years now, it seems Ive been in pain ,,well for 9 years. lol. We-nurses, are suppose to be invincible...well we're not...but one thing we are...smart. Good luck to all..im off to pee in a cup.lol. wish me luck...i NEED this job. haha God bless. Sami
  8. Hi. I started as an LPN almost 8 years ago and they said they were doing away with them at that time. They were going to use medical assistants. Never happened. Im an RN now and sometimes find it harder to work agency as an RN than it was as an LPN. There were more needs in the LTC facilities passing meds. Dont think its going to happen. Best wishes.
  9. Im back in school. Just started yesterday and not real sure im liking it, at all. Ive never done online. Has anyone else ever attended UOP for their BSN or MSN? Positive, negatives of it? Im thinking of switching ...not sure what to do but the classes they require and the way this teacher teaches is definatley not convenient to my work schedule as they said it would be. Last thing i want to do after working 12 hours and driving an hour home is logging on to post how wonderful it is to be a team player online...teach me what I need to know...
  10. How about when I was an LPN and was ask when I would become a "REAL NURSE". I replied, I am a REAL NURSE....."oh, I thought RN meant REAL NURSE and LPN stood for LESS PAPERWORK NURSE"....really?????
  11. I work for Cynamed Healthcare solutions in Pa, I am agency. I work at a local hospital my pay is $32.00 an hour. I worked for an Agency in Charleston SC before i came here and was making 33.50 an hour.
  12. Ive been riding all my life. I own a Harley and a VStar. It gives me a sense of freedom that cant be explained. After working long hours and wanting to rip my hair out, a bike ride relaxes me a great deal. A lot of things can kill you. If you arent safe and pay attention to your surroundings, crossing the street can kill you, sleeping with the wrong man can kill you, drinking, smoking etc can kill you but a lot of us do those things too. Wouldnt trade my bike...even for my nursing license.
  13. Kudos, I agree, if nurses do not unite, they will keep telling us we need experience to get experience, they will pay us what they want and we cant do anything about it. They will hit us with cut backs, down sizing etc and leave us with no where to go but nursing homes. I am tired of the system. They say if you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem, well if anyone could figure out a solution to this, Id be more than happy to get on board. Ive been stuck in situations that werent safe, put my license on the line etc..why cause I have children to feed and need to work. I am now in school working towards my masters...there has to be a better way to make a living than kissing butt and putting my life and license on the line.
