What is the difference between LPNs and RNs?
- Cross Country vs. American Mobile
On a side note, what is an "exclusive contract"? Meaning what you promise not to work with another company within so much time? I am considering Supplemental Healthcare. Out of everyone I talked to they seem to have the most take home pay..not sure. Havent talked to them all. That will take awhile. haha- 1st traveling offer! I think it SUCKS! your thoughts?
Thats a joke!!!! Psych or not! I cant believe they would even insult you with that offer. I didnt read the replies or see how long ago this was posted, I just stopped short at the wage.Crazy.- I hate my job
It never gets better either. Ive all but given up. This career sucks. The doctors, the cattiness, the long hours, the horrible patients...its terrible. I owe a ton of money for nursing school and wish to God I had picked something else. I dont recommend anyone go into this field. I am looking to get into something else asap. Thinking of Pharmaceutical sales. Walmart is looking good right about now....- *UNEMPLOYED NURSES*
I am now in orientation after a long hard job search. I worked agency to give me income because I could not get on staff anywhere...in 3 states! I was an LPN for almost 7 years, worked in all 3 states also. Have extensive experience in med surg, telemetry,LTC,psych etc. Once I graduated...I was told I could work as an LPN but couldnt find any RN work. So I turned back to the agencies I had worked for as an LPN and did whatever I could. Daytona Beach FL was the worst, they cried nursing shortage so bad to the media but wouldnt hire anyone with less than 18 months experience as an RN. Also, I worked agency for years now. As an LPN I was making more than I am now as an RN for the local hospital. My cousin is graduating from a votech school in March and has a job waiting in a county home making more than I am!- Things you'd LOVE to tell coworkers...and get away with it!
My kids are grown and I am not a "kid" person...I know that sounds mean...but its true. I love my boys more than the world but I do not want to hear about the wonderful witty things your 2 year old said while he was going potty or how many outfits your little girl had to try on so she'd be the cutest little thing at the play....I also dont want to see all the pics. I know, I sound mean, really I am not. The conversations just bore me to tears! I would love to walk around the corner and confront the lazy staff member that complains that agency is lazy, meanwhile she has spent 45 minutes gossiping at the nurses desk, while I am running around like a nut and havent had a break since I started 8 hours earlier. Just once Id love to say" If your organization could get rid of lazy people like you, they wouldn't need us" or simply "no wonder no one wants to work here." Also, I smile all the time, or try to. In passing, in conversation, I try to be pleasant no matter what I am thinking inside, I would love one time to say to the woman that eats nails for breakfast,"just because your ugly doesnt mean your personality has to be too".... Lastly..."yes you made it through med school now if you only had common sense" God couldnt we all go on and on and on.- Compact States: 1 is enough?
Im licensed in Pa, Fl and Sc. Sc being part of the compact but my license also only says for the state of Sc. I was told once I apply for my renewal it will be a compact. Not sure though.- Can they rescind job offer due to this at employee physical?
Well, I am sitting here waiting to go to my pre-employment physical....Isnt it amazing how we as nurses are expected not to experience any kind of pain or anxiety???? I have a valid perscription for vicodin. I also have one for tramadol. Ive had them for prob 4 years now. They dont get me high or make me drowsy. However they do allow me to function without being in so much pain that I cant think straight. I am deathly allergic to aspirin and ibuprofen. I can only take tylenol and how much tylenol would I have to eat to fix my lower back and migraines???? Id O.D.lol Heres the problem, if you admit you have chronic back pain, well...from doing your job...they dont want you. If you dont admit to the meds, they dont want you..and if you do admit to the meds, they dont want you. lol. I have layed off the pills for the last 2 days and drank so much water i pee clear. lol. Not that it will completely take the meds out of my system, but it will give me a barely there reading. After that, its up to me to down play why I take them...could use recent fall, just perscribed etc.... I get horrible headaches and cramps around the time of my period, which is not regular..thats my excuse. You cant say "back pain", you cant say "migraines"....because then they think..long term problem with call offs. I cant remember when my back started hurting or when I first went to a chiropractor...Ive been doing this almost 9 years now, it seems Ive been in pain ,,well for 9 years. lol. We-nurses, are suppose to be invincible...well we're not...but one thing we are...smart. Good luck to all..im off to pee in a cup.lol. wish me luck...i NEED this job. haha God bless. Sami- Lpn no more?
Hi. I started as an LPN almost 8 years ago and they said they were doing away with them at that time. They were going to use medical assistants. Never happened. Im an RN now and sometimes find it harder to work agency as an RN than it was as an LPN. There were more needs in the LTC facilities passing meds. Dont think its going to happen. Best wishes.- Hi . University of Phoenix anyone?
Im back in school. Just started yesterday and not real sure im liking it, at all. Ive never done online. Has anyone else ever attended UOP for their BSN or MSN? Positive, negatives of it? Im thinking of switching ...not sure what to do but the classes they require and the way this teacher teaches is definatley not convenient to my work schedule as they said it would be. Last thing i want to do after working 12 hours and driving an hour home is logging on to post how wonderful it is to be a team player online...teach me what I need to know...- 10 things to never say to a nurse
How about when I was an LPN and was ask when I would become a "REAL NURSE". I replied, I am a REAL NURSE....."oh, I thought RN meant REAL NURSE and LPN stood for LESS PAPERWORK NURSE"....really?????- What pay are nurses making these days?
- What pay are nurses making these days?
I work for Cynamed Healthcare solutions in Pa, I am agency. I work at a local hospital my pay is $32.00 an hour. I worked for an Agency in Charleston SC before i came here and was making 33.50 an hour.- Would you ever own a motorcycle? YES or NO?
Ive been riding all my life. I own a Harley and a VStar. It gives me a sense of freedom that cant be explained. After working long hours and wanting to rip my hair out, a bike ride relaxes me a great deal. A lot of things can kill you. If you arent safe and pay attention to your surroundings, crossing the street can kill you, sleeping with the wrong man can kill you, drinking, smoking etc can kill you but a lot of us do those things too. Wouldnt trade my bike...even for my nursing license.- So Far it has been Disappointing
Kudos, I agree, if nurses do not unite, they will keep telling us we need experience to get experience, they will pay us what they want and we cant do anything about it. They will hit us with cut backs, down sizing etc and leave us with no where to go but nursing homes. I am tired of the system. They say if you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem, well if anyone could figure out a solution to this, Id be more than happy to get on board. Ive been stuck in situations that werent safe, put my license on the line etc..why cause I have children to feed and need to work. I am now in school working towards my masters...there has to be a better way to make a living than kissing butt and putting my life and license on the line.- How the heck am i supposed to get one years experience if no one will hire me?
I just posted a thread for the same thing. Its bull crap that they claim nursing shortage but wont hire those of us ready to work. Really, someone NEEDS to do something about this!- LVNs training RNs???
Honestly, and I dont mean to sound snide AT ALL but...be glad your getting trained and your in the hospital. There are many of us that CANT GET IN THE DOOR with years of experience as an LPN. Now as for being an LPN, I was one for 7 years and can run circles around most RNs. unsafe practices are done by both RNs and LPNs, you find short cuts and do things that they dont teach you in nursing school. theres text book and the real world. However I was not with you and dont know what she was doing. Stick to what you believe is safe, dont follow in her foot steps if you dont feel comfotable doing them but never believe that the RN tag makes you a better nurse than the LPN tag. Ive had the pleasure of working with CNAs that were knowledgable than both the LPNs and RNs on the floor. Peace.- This is bullcrap!!!! Cant get a job without experience as rn but been lpn for 8 years
Okay, tell me how this works....when your an LPN, they tell you to go back to school for your RN, better money, job security etc....so now im an RN. Im licensed in Pa, SC, and Fl. I work agency. Been in a variety of different settings. I work LTC, home health, corrections, schools, med surg,etc...I have applied to EVERY hospital in all three states and I get"you must have one year hospital RN experience" well how the hell do you get it???????? These hospitals in Fl, expecially florida hospital systems ,claim to need 100s of RNs but they wont hire you without experience..even if youve had years of experience as an LPN and have worked med surg thru agency. I have thousands in student loans now because I wanted a better future and now this??? Im SO sick of these hospitals claiming a nursing shortage but they wont get off their butts to train those of us that are more than willing to work! Halifax hospital, florida hospital of flagler and ormond..dont even bother applying there! Im about ready to stand out front of the hospitals with a sign that says"IF YOUR LOVED ONE CANT GET ONE ON ONE CARE, ITS NOT BECAUSE THERE IS A SHORTAGE OF NURSES ITS BECAUSE THE HOSPITALS WONT HIRE THE THOUSANDS OF RNS THAT ARE OUT OF WORK!!!!!" I have level 2 clearances, ACLS, all background screenings you can imagine, health screen passes etc....this is BS!!!!!!! I just looked online to veterans affairs in SC and you know they want a MASTERS degree to be an RN med surg nurse!!!! COME on!!!!!!!! I am sick of hearing this crap! All you hospital administrators that boo hoo about your shortage of nurses...get off your butt, take a few cents from your pockets and use it to train us YOUR way if thats so important to you! Think of your patients for once! And schools...if you cant get us a job when we get out, quit telling us how wonderful our future will be as an RN and quit charging us out the butt for an education that wont do us any good. That is of course unless your ideal job is working in a nursing home for the rest of your life! And travel nursing agencies...you need nurses to fill your slots...you need to talk to these damn hospitals and open the door for new grads if you want to make any money off us. I have more experience and have seen more, done more as an LPN than a lot of these RNs that are on the floor have. America...the land of opportunity...yea right!- Took the NCLEX almost 2 days ago... 75 Questions... and worried!
I PASSED MY NCLEX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND THE PEARSON VUE TRICK DID WORK FOR ME. YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!IM AN RN~~~~~~ gOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE ELSE!!!!!GOD BLESS!- Took the NCLEX almost 2 days ago... 75 Questions... and worried!
Did you get your results? We both took it at the same tim. Mine arent up yet. I got the "good" pop up but no reluts yet....Going crazy. Let us know how you did.Best of luck!!!!! Crossing my fingers for us all!- Pearsonvue Trick Is this TRUE? Does it work every time?
- Bashed for pursuing lpn route
I am proud that i finished my RN up. It was a long road, as many of us know, with kids and life, pursuing any schooling is never easy. But with that said, I will never regret the path i choose.I believe it has helped me greatly. I will also ALWAYS respect my CNAs and LPNs becuz i too have been in their shoes. I know how difficult it is to be a CNA. They(which I once was one) work harder than I ever did as an LPN. And as an LPN, I have went into facilities as agency where I couldnt get any help at all and had to do EVERYTHING by myself. I guess the moral of this longdrawn out post is "never forget where you came from"...I know I wont. Much respect and love to everyone, no matter what your title is, youv earned it. Its not easy doing what we do as healthcare professionals....or else everyone would do it.*wink* Sami LPN-RN???(maybe today?????)- LPN about to take NCLEX-RN
Ok, I did the trick too, over and over. Got the same"good " pop up.Which makes me hopeful but thats all that makes me optomistic. It was freaking HARD! I only had two questions that I knew the answer for. The SATA were killing me! I only got one math question. Im scared cuz i didnt get one diagram, pic, sound etc... Its cruel that we cant find out right away how we did. Someone does need to do something about that, problem is, we will all get our results and move on. Atleast Im in a state that allows me to know before two weeks!!! OMG, id be insane. anyone find out how they did, let us know!!!! Good luck and God bless!- LPN about to take NCLEX-RN
It was NCLEX RN this time around. Test shut off at 76. Im not feeling confident. I didnt know any of it, Ive been giving meds for 8 years and these meds I have never heard of, couldnt tell you what they even were if I was allowed to. I guessed! Oh, I did read that if you know you got the last question right, you passed. whatcha think of that theory? LOL.- NCLEX QUESTIONS
And we were told tons of pictures, lots of sounds, diagrams etc...I got standard test questions. nothing different from the old format. - Cross Country vs. American Mobile
