Hello
I am not an lpn but am thinking about becoming one and i have researched salaries.
I have seen salaries as low as $12 an hour and as high as $18 an hour.
What is the average starting salary for A NEW lpn?
Just want to know if I will be able to pay off my student loan!
Are you in Chicago proper or in the suburbs? I live in Racine, which isn't far from the border. I'd be willing to commute to waukegen, north chicago if the pay is that much higher. That's twice what I make. If it's chicago proper, that's harder. It'd be train commute that would at least an hour and a half, plus a pass that would be over hundred a month. That probalby makes it not worth it.
I LIVE AND WORK IN THE CITY. IT ONLY TAKES ME 20 MIN. TO GET TO WORK.
i started at lower than anyone who has posted so far: $9.50 an hour. what a slap in the face! i wanted to cry when i found out what i would be making. it's embarrasing to even post it. that was in 2004. i have since moved to nights and gotten a raise. still i am making less than just about all the other poster. what keeps me where i am is the people i work with and also i would have a good bit of driving if i went anywhere else.
oh my goodness! i made that kind of money when i was a nurses aide back in the day.but it does matter that you love your job and people you work with.i might still try to shop around.
I received my LVN in Texas, am now in New Mexico, as a Pediatric Home Health Nurse, I make $17.00 an hour, with no benefits, no health care, no PTO, etc. I am wondering what an LVN in Coachella Valley, CA would make, Palm Desert, PalmSprings, Rancho Mirage and surrounding nearby areas. Anyone?
I live in the Baltimore, MD area. I start at $24/hour+$3/hour for 3-11, plus OT. I can make over $30/hr if I want. This is at a TCU in a Nursing Facility, and about average. Forget the hospitals if you need cash. Experience, yes, $$$ no. Also, don't forget to weigh your benefits package. A high hr rate may be offset by sub-par insurance. Or some places pay for school, but have a lower hr rate. It all depends on what you need.

Hi Mumpet-
I am also a pediatric home health LVN, here in the Sacramento area. I also make $17 an hour, and have been stuck at that rate for 5 years now!!

Time to ask for a raise or tell them see ya later.Dont you get an annual evaluation?I would request a raise.Give them an ultimatum. There are many homecare cases and companies out there.Dont settle for less than youre worth.

I get an evaluation every year, and they always say "You're doing a great job. We haven't gotten a raise from the state, so we can't give out raises this year." It sucks, but it seems to be this way with any home health agency. I could make more in a different setting, but I like the flexibility of home care. I let them know my availability for the month, and they schedule me as much or as little as I want.
I work in LTC and when I started at the facility that I am currently in I was only a GPN. I started out at 16.50 an hour with 1.00 shift diff for 11-7 shift. I got my first raise at the begining of the following calender year along with everyone else, but then I got another raise 1 yr after I passed my boards. I went from 16.50 to 18.75 in just over a year. our facility is giving an across the board raise to LPN's that went into effect on 1/1/07 and is said to bring everyone up to a min of 21.00, won't know for sure about how much I will be getting until Wed! Waiting anxiously to find out!
