$27.40/hr in LTC in the Bronx, NY

What state do you work in? Here in NY starting is between $18-24/hr. I just started in a nursing home in the bronx 2 months ago and had no nursing home experience only 1 1/2 years hospital experience and started at $24/hr plus full benefits(1199 union). Per diem LPN's can get up to $32/hr(no benefits).

Have you tried White Glove? They usually staff all the boroughs

Hi everyone just want to vent a bit, today was the WORST day I have had in a long time. I work in a hospital in NYC on a med/surg unit. There are 2 RN's 1 LPN(me) and 2 CNA's for 16 patients, not a bad ratio at all, but today my boss had the nerve to say it was ok 2 give me my more than my usual 8 patients because I don't really do anything right in front of me:angryfire !!!! I was at a loss for words, came home after my shift and burst to tears! I don't know how to approach her without either crying or yelling at her. Definitly not the first time I have been made to feel unworthy because I am not an RN, I do almost everything the RN's do, the only 2 things i do not there is hang blood and do initial assessments. Other than that I am running around from the minute i'm in door to the minute I leave. just feel so bummed out well sorry to rant on for so long just wanted to get it out, thanks for listening;)

Hi everyone, I cant speak for the RN's at Monte but I am an LPN there and have been for alittle over a year now. 1199 is my union and they are excellant. NYSNA is the union for the RN's and from what I hear from the RN's I work with they are very happy with thier representation. Also there are soo.... many different departments and offsite clinics within Monte throughout the Bronx and Westchester County.

thanks caliotter, just got confused there, soo.. much info! Don't have any plans of leaving NY so I should be ok with that. Gonna call the college tomorow woth a list of questions and get myself going. thanks again for the info :)

I everyone I am new here and was reading through a bunch of these threads, which by the way were very, very helpful and informative and finally made me decide to start the EC LPNtoRN program . My question is I see that some people are talking about having to complete 50% of a tratitional RN program. I'm very confused:o do I have to do the same? I am have been an LPN for alittle over a year now. Anyone who can explain would be very much appreciated!

I went to Northern Westchester BOCES in Yorktown Heights. They also have a Southern Wetschester BOCES in Valhalla just about 30 min north of NYC. They are both great programs. They prepare you very well for any clinical situations. I also heard of a new LPN Program at Monroe College.

hi, i have been an LPN for alittle over a year now in NYC, and have been working at a hospital. I started at $20.50/hr and and now making $21.75/hour.

I work at a hospital in NYC an a med/surg floor. I have been working here for just over a year now and have learned soo... much. Here the LPN is responsible for med passes(po, IV, injections..), treatments, patient teaching, starting IV's, assist RN in implementing the plan of care, assisting in codes. The only things this hospital does not allow LPN's to do is hang blood and perform the INITIAL assessment upon admission.

Hi there, I live and work in the Bronx, NY at Montefiore Medical Center. the pays pretty good, when I started it was $21 an hour, and it goes up every year from there. I enjoy where I work for the most part, but there are quite a few people who tend to think your not a nurse because you don't have your RN, unfortunatly I guess there's always a few of those sad people no matter where you go:nono:
