Hello
I am not an lpn but am thinking about becoming one and i have researched salaries.
I have seen salaries as low as $12 an hour and as high as $18 an hour.
What is the average starting salary for A NEW lpn?
Just want to know if I will be able to pay off my student loan!
i have 10 years experience in LTC. your nursing homes will always pay more than the hospitals. and there are many nursing homes now offering health insurance, that before you could only get while working in a hospital.
most salaries can be neg. in LTC. depends on your experience and how confident you are in your interview. the facility will always pay you the least amout per hour if you are willing to settle.
LTC also has different ways to work emplyoees sch. i work what they call a Baylor Pay shift. it doubles on the weekends. i work 2 16 hour shifts on sat. and sun. and i am paid for 40 hours. when i break down the pay and include the 8 hours bonus pay, i make more then most RN. but i have been there a couple of years and i am older so i dont need weekends off.
hope this helps you.
My wife who is an LPN/LVN made $16/hr in socal at a medical group as a starting floater nurse. She makes $20/hr in Oregon now at a nursing home.
That is awesome, trying to look for jobs in nursing home where I live, I wanted to look for jobs in the correctional facilities as well:rolleyes:
I live in Southern PA and work in a County Nursing Home working 7P-7A. 3 12hr. shifts/wk. I make $15/hr + $3 more for 3-11 shift and $1 more for the 11-7 shift. So all in all, I don't think it's that bad but I've heard more and more nurses say they're making more than that just graduating and I've only been out of school for 2 years. I think that we as LPN's should be paid significantly more for the work we do.

It all depends on location and facility. I made $9.50 and hr at a pediatric clinic with one year experience. My advice is to put in an application to a hospital( so you get your acute care experience) and work there for a year with out benefits (for higher pay). Then after that period of time, decide what and where you want to do.
i would say in the Northwest region you should be making any where from $20-$30 an hour depending on the position (typically closer to 20). this is with at least 1-2 years experience. this includes facility, agency or home health positions. clinic or Dr. offices typically pay less but it depends on the provider. maybe 16-18? you also need to consider benefits, and for profit or non-profit status of a company which will greatly impact your pay. However, you'll learn very quickly that dollar amount is of minimal importance. Be very, very careful where you work. If you injure yourself working at a facility that staffs skimpier, and pays a few dollars more an hour, you won't be making anything, and you'll be spending all your money on your lawyer. just a thought.

My Mom is an LVN and has been for over 20 years. She works in home health and gets paid $30 per visit plus mileage. She averages about 35 - 40 visits a week :)
