Bless your heart!! do i also suffer from this but my skin also cracks, deep painful cracks. i have been a nurse now 13 years. i dont point this out at job interviews. i have a prescription ointment prescribed by a dermatologist and useer it nightly and cover my hands with disposable plastic gloves. this helps alot and durning the day i use neutragina hand cream. i also go to Bed Bath and Beyond and perchase hand sanitizer without alchol, expensive but the other brings me to my knees when my hands are cracked open. the Doctor also has me using super glue when the cracks get really bad. this fills in then the cracks and it really keeps the nerve endings from being exposed an d works great but then i have glue build up on my hands. I wanted to do ER nursingICU but to many germs floating around for the patient and for myself. i now work home health pediatrics. and i do love peds and would have never went this route unless for the hands. i have 10 years experience in LTC. your nursing homes will always pay more than the hospitals. and there are many nursing homes now offering health insurance, that before you could only get while working in a hospital. most salaries can be neg. in LTC. depends on your experience and how confident you are in your interview. the facility will always pay you the least amout per hour if you are willing to settle. LTC also has different ways to work emplyoees sch. i work what they call a Baylor Pay shift. it doubles on the weekends. i work 2 16 hour shifts on sat. and sun. and i am paid for 40 hours. when i break down the pay and include the 8 hours bonus pay, i make more then most RN. but i have been there a couple of years and i am older so i dont need weekends off. hope this helps you.

i have worked the Baylor plan for four years now. 2 days and my whole week is done. work 32 hours paid for 40. anything and almost everything is completed the first part of the shift when i am fresh. the last of the shift i spend my time doing such things as diabetic nail care, cleaning med carts, or restocking for the following week. it works for me.

i always walk up to them introduce myself, let them know i am the floor nurse. i tell them i have such and such treatment to do and i invite them to go with me. many times they will just ask me a few questions and they are through with me. only on a few occasions have they said yes i would like to go with durning the treatment. if they ask a question that i am not able to answer i will say, "give a few minutes and i will have that answer." i always make it a point to get back with them with their answer.

when a Dr. makes rounds on my unit i take the time to make them with him/her. i can personal talk with them and let them know what has been going on with my patient. also you get to know the Dr. and them know you so they know who they are speaking with on the phone in the middle of the night. i also feel it is out of respect also.

i made very good grades in class and clinicals were 2nd nature to me, then....OBGYN durning clinicals. every baby in at least 5 counties was born durning my rotation. each baby that was born was very emotional to me. i was hugging the grandmothers and bawling with them. no matter what i tried the tears just flowed. the staff nurses tried everything but i would just bawl. my rotation was cut short in OB due to the best interest of the patients.

there is a shoe out called Z-Coil. to wonderful to explain. very ugly but i now dance through 16 hour shifts and my back and legs feel brand new. big price around $200.00 but you can replace the springs for $40.00 and they dont usually need replacement for 3 year mark. see if you can find these shoes online. i am so impressed.

i work at a wonderful facility; family owned not a corparation. it is the dang heat down here that is a killer. 95 degrees outside and 100% humidity. it is a killer. when i visited amarillo i dont think i even broke a sweat. that is why i was tring to re-locate. nice weather but i will have to survive. thanks for your post.

hello i am an LVN in the deep east texas, LTC making 20.00 an hour for 32/40 weekend shift. i would like to relocate to amarillo texas and can not get a straight answer from anyone the rate of pay in amarillo. i made many phone calls while visiting but they all wanted me to come in and apply. can anyone help me with this. also some of the places i should start appling to. and one more question.....can agency keep me busy enough if i went through them? thanks yall any and all info would be appreciative.

WalkMyGardenPath very well written. you captured the heart of all GOOD night nurses. i would be proud to work night shift with you anytime. lots of times i work with the nurses that read the newspapers.

i have been a nurse for 4.5 years now and 4 of them have been on nights. my reason for this i dont get mixed up in all the politics. i find at nights i dont have all the demands of this has to be done right now that i feel like i can do better patient care. i have that extra time to get things done like nail care for example. i also have more time to look over charts and make sure orders are written on the MAR and little things like that. but then i am single and my daughter is now 18 and starting college. also the walmarts are not packed that early in the morning.

i was a prison guard for 10 years and then a truck driver for several years. i had a surgery with complications stayed in the hospital 21 days then developed staf infection back in the hospital 4 more weeks. i had very good nurses durning my stay and as we became friends i decided nursing would be for me. been a nurse every since and love it.
