LPN or RN

World Registration

Hello everyone! I'm an IEN here in Manitoba and I'm having a hard time deciding whether to pursue LPN or RN first because many people here were telling me that RN processing takes 2 years. Is it true? I want to be an RN as soon as possible. Hope you guys can help me out with this. Thank you very much!

It sucks that it takes longer to be licensed as an RN here in Canada compared to US.

Ok, I just received my application through the email. The application fee is $150 and plus there's another fee for a successful assessment. If everything is turned it, it'll take two weeks to hear back from CLPNA. I'm going to send this application out by the end of this week!

I live in Canada. I was told LPN will be phased out. Is that true? Can anyone tell me?

Where in Canada do you live? Who told you this?

PN education programmes have been expanding and my health service is increasing the number of LPNs they hire.

Agree with Fiona LPN's are expending where I live too

Oh yes. The hiring of PNs is on the rise where I am in Ontario as well.

What do you mean? There will be no LPNs no more?

??? I think it's doing the opposite. The scope is expanding and lpn/rpns are being used in more and more areas including those once reserved for RNs

Yes our scope is expanding by leaps and bounds.

Here in AB we are in ICU, ER and NICU. I think with the way health funding is going and the cost of RN contracts, PNs will be found in more and more settings that were once the domain of the RN. Our basic PN education here is the old diploma RN programme, so it will be interesting to see what happens when US ADN's try to relocate here or ON.

Anyone here who's an RN now in Manitoba?
