How are you LPN's getting continuing education hours?

My job is good and its been a great learning experience for me. The only thing that I don't like is that they don't provide financial support of the nurses to get CE hours. They don't even have presenters that come in to the facility to provide hours. We are pretty much on our own to get them. I would say that is a big disappointment. Since graduating in August, I went to a Basic IV workshop that refreshes you on how to administer IV and how to problem solve. It cost $45 and I plan to attend the second part this month for another $45. Its getting to be expensive because all the other workshops cost $85 and up. How are you all getting your CE? And what is the required CE for an LPN?

In Ohio, we need 24 hours of CE every two years. I do mine by home study. If you do an online search, there are providers you can order the book and test through, and mail the test in when finished for grading. I usually spend about $30-$50 dollars to get 24-30 hours, which covers what is needed. Just make sure whoever you order it through is recognized by your BON as a provider of CEU's.

And what is the required CE for an LPN?
This varies from state to state. I practice in Texas, where LVNs must accrue 20 CEU contact hours between the renewal periods every 2 years. I also have a license in California, where LVNs must accrue 30 CEU contact hours between each renewal period. I obtain my CEU hours online.

in texas lvn's are able to use credits (actual nursing courses) that lead to a rn license. i am going to use my ec courses. you may be able to do the same. check with ur bon

My hospital provides CEUs but, they have poor presentation, so I go elsewhere. Other hospitals, on line and some community colleges offer them in my area. I have taken Basic EKG Interpetation, 12 Lead Interpetation, Diabetes, Wound Care and Response to CHest Pain at Beth Israel Hospital in Manhattan. That's a good question...how many CEUs are required in my state. I have enough for this round, but would have to inquire what is actually required for future reference.

I use RN.com for my Ohio license they have a real deal all you can take for 31.95. Can't beat that with a stick. But be sure to check with your BON and see what they do and don't approve. I know most boards allow online now.
