Hello: I am from Romania, I got all my papers from cgfns taken care of, The Colorado Board of Nursing said I had enough credit hours to take the NCLEX exam for LPN - they gave me My ATT and I took the test on May 21,2008 - I Passed the exam, now waiting for my license, yesterday a woman called me from The Colorado Board of Nursing and said I need to have clinical for Psychiatric, it is my understanding that this is not offered any place for LPN and I don't need it for my LPN license ( only for RN ) I am totaly confused now ! Can anybody help me with this problem ? Thanks Marieta :banghead:

i think you need to call her back and ask for the rule book that states where you need that clinical rotation. and if it is in there,. ask them where you can do your clinical, even if you have to wait until you get to colorado.

keep at it

I was also told in my program that LPN course work does not include a psychiatric clinical rotation. In fact in my program, which I finished in May, only had 1 credit hour of mental health with NO clinical. To my knowledge psychiatric clinicals are only required for RN licensure.

This is something you need to clarify again with the BON. Have you applied to be a RN? Also not sure if you are in the US already with a work visa but you are aware of retrogression and can not change your visa. As I said I am not sure what visa you are in the US with

In Connecticut we needed a psych clinical (its part of the required "experiences" the State BON requires. We had 2 days in hospital psych unit (6.5hrs each day) and then two days outpatient psych/mental health also 6.5 hrs each day. I attended an LPN school. We also had a semester of psych class.

Depends on the state that you are going thru for licensue, each state can set their own requirements and you need to meet them to get licensed there.

And there are actually quite a few that have psych or mental health in their programs.

And if they tell you that you need it, then you are going to need to comply with it. Remember that you need to meet their requirements, or they do not need to issue a license to you.

And if they say clinical component, then a theory or lecture section needs to be done at the same time to meet the obligation for it. It is something that is quite easy to do and much faster than spending months trying to get something changed that they do not have to do.

Better just to get it done, and congratulations on passing the exam.
