Hi! I'm just curious how far everyone plans to go in their education. Also, the time frame that you hope to complete your schooling. And I guess what you hope to specialize in. This is purely out of curiousity!
I'll start! I'm 21 years old and I will start my 2 year ADN program next fall. I will graduate when I'm 24 when I will complete a year long (24 credit) RN-BSN. I then hope to finish my MSN by the time I'm 26, at the same school that I complete my BSN at. I want to be a Midwife!
I know a lot of people believe you should work for awhile first and then go back to school but I want to get it all done with while I'm single, free of children, etc.
Of course this all depends on passing ADN school, getting into the BSN and MSN program, etc. I'm lucky though and have few responsibilities other than NS so I think I'll be okay. Plus, I have my eyes set on a school that is not as competitive so I have a much better chance.
ps sorry if i looked over a post like this... i didn't see any though.
I currently am LPN and have been out for 2 years now. I've just started the process of applying with Excelsior College for the ADN program. It is self-paced so I am guessing about 2 years so that I don't have to miss out on much family life. Plus we are trying to conceive, as I have 2 step-sons & none of my own (yet). I am not interested in going further at this point because I want to stay at bedside & don't want to teach/manage. That is unless I decide to do midwifery. I'd love to be in L&D or Peds, so that part is still in the air.
i have been a lvn for many years now and i am slowly chipping away at my adn through ec. i expected to go faster but i am a (senior after this semester) pre-law student as well and it takes up 95% of my time. the other 5% i used for sleeping, eating and taking care of the home life. my ultimate goal is to be a nurse attorney. i want to travel and give legal seminars to nurses so they can protect themselves while working. i also want to be able to assist nurses that get in trouble with the board . so we will see if i can make all this happen . i graduate from my bachelors program next year (fall) and i should be a rn by at least the summer...mix this with 6 kids and it becomes a slow process....
I've got a BA in molecular and cell biology and will be entering an Accelerated BSN program in Nov and finish in Nov 08. I will then work for a couple of years to check out the field and decide what will be my specialty at the masters level. I will definitely get the MS to get the NP. I want to get the MS before the requirement for NP license is the DNP degree. I'm considering FNP or ANP, most likely to practice in primary care. I've also considered getting a doctorate degree in naturopathic medicine, but leaning toward the MS in nursing and possible learning some non western stuff, like herbs or something. I'll be 33 in a few days and am not trying to meet a specific age deadline. But I definitely want to get my masters before the mandated 2015 DNP to practice deadline.

I'm 23, almost 24, and have an B.S. in Health Science. I'm getting ready to start an accelerated ASN program which I will finish in summer of '08. Afterwards, I plan to work for a year, and then start an RN to MSN program, I hope to finish with school by the time I'm 27 or 28. I would like to be a midwife or an NP.
Applications are in process, but if all goes well I'll begin the Johns Hopkins ABSN program in late-May 2008, finish in July 2009. The JHU Acute Care MSN specialty requires that one begin practice in a critical care unit for a term of at least one year before you can begin the MSN portion, so ideally I would work at JHU Hospital so I could take advantage of the tuition reimbursement. Then, after the MSN is done in two years I would definitely consider pursuing a DNP...or you know things could totally end up differently! I know that age is just a number, but I would love to be licensed and practicing before I'm 30 (this plan will allow that) :)

I'm 23, almost 24. My plan is to finish my degree in psychology while completing more prerequisites and apply for an ABSN program for fall 08. Then I'll work at a Children's Hospital for two years before i go after the MSN. I'd like to get school out of the way but I'm in no hurry to be a neonatal NP. I want to stay bedside for awhile. Somewhere along the way I hope to get married and have some kids.
