I just found out tonight I'm starting this August!! I swear it feels like a dream; I never thought I would get in. There are about 500 names for 44 spots and it's done by lottery. This is my first time applying and I GOT IN!! I've never won anything in my life and this totally makes up for it~lol.

Just got the lab kit..
gloves
tegaderm
dressing change tray
penlight
scissors
ostomy bag & clip
mask
surestep pro test strips
lancets
and a blue drawstring bag
looking through the items makes me think back to when I was working as a CNA at John Muir and watching the nurses use everything in here.. it's crazy to think that time is finally here.. see you guys Saturday/August 13!
Monique - are you the same person I met the other day at Kaiser getting their shots done?
-Tes
the kit sounds fun!! lol i'm such a nurse nerd
so, what are you all doing for shoes? i have some plain white nikes, but i'm wondering if i should invest in some "nursing" shoes. i heard they make a huge difference!!
i can't believe tomorrow is our meet & greet. i'm excited but also nervous!! i will be coming straight from work and i'm going to have my husband and kids meet me at skips. i just wish it wasn't so darn hot outside...it's going to be pretty miserable
Hi Tes, yes it's me!! Small world huh? Are you going to the meet & greet on Sat?
I got my 1st ppd read today & my CPR certification done. Slowly but surely. Hopefully Kaiser will be done with my form soon & I get my last ppd next week.
I will be going to Skips tomorrow also, I will have my two girls with me & my mom to help watch them. My hubby's working so he can't make it
So excited, can't wait to find out some more info tomorrow & meet you all!!
monique and stephanie~it was so nice to meet you both in person :) now i have faces to put with the names~lol. and, monique, your mom was super nice! you're very fortunate to have her for help and advice
brittany~you didn't really miss too much. it was put on by the class of 2011. they just went over some of the basics of what to expect and the scrubs store was there selling the uniforms and accessories.
now we just have to work on checking off the rest of our to-do lists :) less than 4 weeks to go; i know it's going to fly by. i'm going to try and enjoy these last few weeks before the craziness begins!

Kristin,
It was great meeting you in person yesterday! =) Unfortunately, I didn't meet everyone =(, but I am sure we all get to know each other once school starts! OMG! 4 WEEKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHH! OK. I REALLY need to stop- going nuts- had too much coffee. LOL! I found these shoes @ Walmart; they are Tread Safe brand. Well, I liked them because they were anti-slip or whatever it's called and they are leather (sneakers) so, i guess it's a good thing that I won't slip and bust my a$$! LOL! And they were only $24 bucks. But they are a little on the ugh! side....not very cute. I guess I could always return them. A friend of mine got some nursing shoes, which were crazy-expensive, but she said they made her feet hurt. I am still not sure what I want to do for shoes after all. LOL. It was SO hot yesterday...have to adjust to the commute and the heat. By the way, I got my nursing kit on Friday, and i was SO excited!!! See you soon. =)
Monique,
Kristin pointed you out before she left, then I looked and you were gone. But, then I wasn't 100% sure if you were the right person. The idea of walking about to people and reading their name tags was really awkward yesterday. LOL. I'm sure we will 'officially' meet each other soon.
Brittany,
Well, you really didn't miss much. Kristin basically explained it all. Look forward to meeting you soon.
Time is flying by so fast...enjoy it while it lasts! Ahh! Look forward to seeing everyone soon.

-Stephanie =)
It was nice to meet some of you guys. Sorry I didn't get a chance to meet everyone but I am sure we will all get the chance to know each other very well over the next two years!! I am so excited for our first day but also SUPER nervous!! The talk that the class of 2011 gave made me even more nervous, anyone else feel the same?
@Kristin, it was great meeting you also!! Yes my mom is very helpful. I kinda felt funny bringing my mom at first, she was going to come to help watch my girls, but they refused to come. It was so funny hearing the concerns your husband had because my husband was asking my mom the same questions the week before!!
@Stephanie, sorry I missed you also I also felt awkward trying to walk around & read nametags, especially since I forgot to wear my contacts!! Lol Soon we will all be able to introdue ourselves in the classroom. So excited!! See you then
Monique
hi girls
thanks so much for letting me know about the meeting! i am up in washington state for a few weeks helping nanny my much younger brother and sister, and figured this would be one of my last opportunites to take off for a few weeks at a time! but i'm glad you all got to go and meet some of the others!
i ordered my lab kit today and the goal is to do the online class tomorrow. :)
at the meeting did they say we needed to order our scubs before the first day of school? i know we can wear casual clothing the first day, so i may wait to see what we hear before i do anything about shoes.
any other mention of what to bring the first day? do we need our books that day, any other paperwork?? thanks again girls! see you all soon!
Hey girls!
Yes, I am super nervous BUT super excited! Monique we WILL be meeting each other very soon. =) I think we will be making many great friends because we will be working towards the same goal, and totally understand each other.
Brittany,
I am not sure when we need our scrubs by. I assume we need it by the time clinicals start? Unless we have to wear our scrubs in skills lab, but i doubt it. They really didn't mention anything about shoes. I should have asked but I didn't think about it. I asked a 2nd year student what to expect on the first day of school, he said it was just an over view of what we'll be doing, but he didn't specify if we needed our books or not (i didn't think to ask. Argh!). I imagine its an intro to classes and maybe we have paperwork to fill out or something.
Hope everyone is doing well! I am sure we are all excited/worried/anxious, but remember we're in this TOGETHER! =) Ladies, get ready because our journey is just around the corner! WHOOO HOOOO! Talk and see everyone soon! =)
-Stephanie =)
Quick question. Has anyone bought their books already? Do you guys know which edition of the Medical Surgical book we need? I am not getting the book bundle because it's crazy-expensive! I need to call the book store BUT I keep forgetting! Ugh. Oh! The second year student also told me that we MUST have the Evolve Apply: Online RN Case Studies (2 Year Version). Apparently it is included in the book bundle, but we could also purchase it separately @ Amazon.com or something. If I remember anything else I will def let you all know. One last question! LOL! I didn't buy a scrub coat/jacket thingy, but do you think its OK if we wear a long sleeved white shirt under our scrub top instead? I know, that q. was kind of random. lol. Talk to you all soon. =)

I am sooooo excited for those of you in!!!! Sorry my last reply was soooo short. I did it while sitting in traffic ( I know that's bad... Can't help it on hwy 4). I'm a local girl too... I live in Antioch. I am currently in Merritt's LVN program, but so badly want to get into LMC RN that I kept trying. We are using the text Nursing Interventions and Clinical Skills by Elkin Perry Potter 4th Edition. If that is a book that you all probably need, the ISBN # is 978-0-323-04458-5.
