This is for those of us that will be applying to LA county college of nursing and allied health's fall 2014 semester. I will be submitting my application for the basic RN program tomorrow... Yayyy!!! I am beyond excited, I can't believe this time has finally come!
Thanks guys. I hope I make it on the 20th. I'm currently working full time and I really didn't think I'd get accepted this semester. So, I have a big decision to make-give my two week notice and go to school or give up my seat this semester and apply next time. I just need sometime to get my finances in order. Either that or find a weekend job during school! Ugh, i don't know what I am going to do.
Congratulations!!!!!!! :)
I know you must be excited like the rest of us.
Although I do agree with everything that ber7797 wrote, I must say that I totally understand about getting your finances in order... Today I was offered a seat to one of the Bachelors programs that I applied to after originally being an alternate. After much deliberation and thought for the past month, I said no.... it just didn't make financial sense to move so far from home and literally be struggling financially... I didn't know how soon I would be able to find a job and loans could only cover so much. When theyy called me, for a moment I thought I was going to say yes, but NO came right out of my mouth. LOL
Money will always be an aspect that you have to worry about during school but it definitely shouldn't consume your thoughts when your focus should be on your courses...

I agree with comments above. Just wanted to add that we don't know exactly what situation you r in. No matter what you will decide its will be your decision. I'm sure that's many people who attend nursing school faces some financial difficulties. That's a huge step to quit jobs and focus only on school. But it will pay back eventually! You still have time to decide.
Do I remember correct that you had 78 points? Dont you afraid that next time cut off might be like 82 for example? If I would be u, I would use my chance to attend nursing school. But as I said, we don't know your situation!

From my personal perspective, I would never risk my spot in the nursing program. It is extremely competitive to get into one these programs, and once one gets to be accepted, one should not forfeit their seat. That is just my opinion. And also, this year they seem to have lower cutoff points so you don't really know what next year is going to bring. Maybe, next year there will be a lot more applicants, maybe more applicants with much higher pts so the cutoff might go up. Why risk it?! By just applying to the program means you were at least somewhat ready to start the program, otherwise you would not have even applied. And even if you do keep your job for a few more months until the next application period, I don't think that the financial situation can get that much better in only few months. But, like Dragonfly said, we do not know your situation, so maybe we are all wrong, and you truly know the best. I am just talking from my perspective an how I see things. I hope you make the right decision and good luck to you either way :-)
I have beem working full time all of my life. I plab to get as much as possible from student loans and make the rest up by working while in the program. Even if it means eating macaroni and cheese and ramen noodles for 2 years, i dont care. I will do it! Lol. Im in the same boat but i have worked so hard to get here. Im not going to turn it down because i have bills. I will find a way to cover costs! People do it all the time. It will be hard to work and go to school, but its only two years! Call in sick for the preregistration and give your notice two weeks before class starts and start looking for a job that fits your schedule when you know what your schedule is.

Haha, mac & cheese and ramen noodles for two years :-). Been there, done that ;-). Anything is possible when you have enough will and courage to do it.

Congrats!! I am on a similar boat, but I will give my notice on Wednesday that I plan to leave on August. This opportunity knocks now and who is to say what the future holds. I know that you have to make the decision that's best for you, but if it's any consolation I'm sure more than of few of will be struggling during school too. Good luck in your processing and let us know what you decide! No matter what, be proud of yourself! You made it!
