Los Angeles County College of Nursing - Spring 2020

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

I wanted to start a thread for those applying to the Spring 2020 Basic (Generic) program. The school website posted dates for an information session for prospective students. I'll be attending May 31, 2019, and wanted to see if anyone else is going to the same day or any of the other ones?

Application window opens June 15th for Spring 2020. I hope this thread will help answer admission/application questions and get connected with other applicants or those who are currently in the program.

How did you find out? Where is everyone getting their updates? Should I be logging into a portal or something?

@mchlstvn Did you get a notice already?? I was pretty sure that I read somewhere that we'll learn of our clinical sites during orientation week.

Since I had to have my pre-orientation separate from everyone else (still embarrassed about missing it), I was able to ask a lot of questions during my one-on-one time with the Director. I'm moving from Glendale to Lakewood in a few weeks so I asked her quite a few questions about this.

She told me that the clinicals get assigned by your home address. So no, we don't get rotated to all the county hospitals. If you're remotely more up north, you'll get assigned to Olive View, because there are less students closer to that region. So I think if you're 15 min by USC, it's probably safe to assume you'll be assigned there. If I was in Glendale, I would've been assigned to Olive View... but my new address in Lakewood would have me assigned to Harbor.

Hope that helps!

Wait I was not notified either. Where did you see your clinical placement?

I got an email for my on boarding process for Spring 2020 semester the day I posted about it. I got placed at Rancho Los Amigos for the first semester. I emailed the Admin staff about how clinical are assigned. To their reply, yes it is true, clinical placement is based on your home address, however; we do rotate to one of the main medical center either Harbor, LAC+USC, or Olive view for semester 2-4. I was concerned I would be stuck at Rancho for the entire program because of where I live.

Check your emails (same email used for the application) for on boarding instructions. It's similar to the live scan info sheet we completed, but there are subtle important differences.

@Terri Yim no portal for this, but remember after orientation we will be assigned a school email for all other updates.

@mchlstvn Do you mind telling me who sent the email? I just checked with Erika and she said that she hasn't sent out anything regarding clinical sites. And the Director is out on vacation until Jan 7th. Definitely nothing in my inbox and spam box, as well.

It was from Ms. Trina Trangone, she sent it to me this past Tuesday. I wonder why no one else got there on boarding email.

I haven’t received any email, only one with our orientation schedule.

Greetings,

Have any of you guys purchased the main textbooks? Since most of them are etextbooks, what are you guys planning to use to pull up the books? Laptop or tablet?

I will be using my iPad for the textbook and taking notes. However, I haven't purchased the text yet. I will probably buy them during the week of orientation.

Hi!

Has anyone receive a call from the school to pick up uniforms?

I wonder if we can receive them at orientation week..

I was also wondering if anyone is interested in facebook group for 2020 cohort. I was deciding which school I should go, and chose this school. I am really hoping that I can get through 2 years. ??

I haven’t received anything. Yes! You should do a Facebook page.
