Los Angeles County College of Nursing - Spring 2020

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

I wanted to start a thread for those applying to the Spring 2020 Basic (Generic) program. The school website posted dates for an information session for prospective students. I'll be attending May 31, 2019, and wanted to see if anyone else is going to the same day or any of the other ones?

Application window opens June 15th for Spring 2020. I hope this thread will help answer admission/application questions and get connected with other applicants or those who are currently in the program.

I just read the email from the school. Looks like three books are required for digital CoursePoints.

Do you guys know what's included in the N113L/N233L Kits? From what I see it's gloves. Are these kits mandatory?

I got cleared from HR. My ID badge is ready for pick up. I can officially say I've been accepted to the program ?!!

Hello, I was recently accepted! I had a question the email I was sent stated, "you must obtain your BLS card from American Heart Association (AHA) for health care providers prior to orientation week." I was wondering where you guys obtained that.

Hi Everyone,

Slightly off-topic but I need to cover all my bases...

I was accepted into the Spring 2020 term however, my whole family got food poisoning from eating out on Halloween night and unfortunately missed the following day's pre-orientation. No matter the circumstance, my slot was immediately filled with the next applicant. Worst possible turn of events for me seeing as how I'd already turned down all other acceptances I'd gotten. I only have one program with any hope left since they haven't sent out acceptances yet. If I don't make it there, I'll only be left with the option of going for another round of applications for the Fall 2020 term programs.

CONAH does sympathize but since they filled the slot before realizing I'd already communicated my situation to certain staff, their hands are tied as well. I understand but of course, I'm really devastated and it's eating me inside out. It's taking serious determination to not fall into some depressive hole about all this.

After being in communication with the Director and Dean, I've been promised the next forfeited spot, if there is one. So, if anyone here is accepted into another program and decides to forfeit their spot with CONAH (or know of any within the cohort), I'd really REALLY really appreciate the heads up.

Thanks so much.

@cxvnx I got my from my employer who provides us the training and certificates. You can search the websites for the nearest BLS provider course.

@itscindy Sorry to hear about your situation. During the pre-registration one of the ladies I was near said she is still considering if she is going to stay with CONAH or take the other offer at ELAC. She got accepted to both programs but has what I vaguely remember until December 18th to decided which school she will go with. If you can find out or verify when is the last day to accept or withdraw from CONAH Spring 2020 cohort that would help ease the stress. There's a chance someone will drop from now till orientation week. Sounds like if you were to reapply you would be guarantee a spot next cycle. I know you worked hard to get this far, but it's not the end for your nursing journey. Do not give up hope!

Hi @mchlstvn, thanks so much for responding and for being encouraging. Although it really does suck, like you mentioned, should I need to reapply, I’d feel super secure with the whole process and being admitted for Fall 2020 term.

Hopefully, I get to rejoin my fellow Spring 2020 term accepted cohort. But I think I’m warming up to the idea of a slight delay... especially since that would give me some much needed time to tend to all the stuff I know I wont have time for once nursing programs start.

I got offered my spot back! I also just got accepted in GCC’s program but CONAH is my first choice so I’ll be resuming my onboarding here.

thank goodness.

@itscindy Welcome back! I would’ve made the same choice. I believe CONAH is the best ADN program in making really great competent nurses.

FYI: the day you go for your Live Scan is the day you take your picture for your ID badge.

Thanks! I actually got all the way to my TB testing part of onboarding so I'll just be picking up my badge on Tuesday. I'm also meeting with the Director to get me back up to speed on everything I missed on pre-orientation on Tuesday as well. I'm sure I'll know everything by then but have you already started on textbook orders and uniform fittings already?

We received an email from ------------ with the link to purchase the required ebooks and lab kit. Let me know if you like me to forward that to you. The email also mentioned that the book vendors will be available during orientation week. I won’t be purchasing my book till week of orientation. I ordered my scrubs the day of pre-registration and was told we will be notified sometime in December to pick them up from the school.

The site won't let me send a direct message ?

But yes, I'd really appreciate it if you could forward me the email! The sooner I know how much I need to spend/set aside, the more helpful. My email is kimc6606 at student dot laccd dot edu.

Thanks so much for being so helpful!! I'll make sure to make it up to you as we struggle through our cohort together!
