Los Angeles County College of Nursing - Spring 2020
Just got off the phone with HR and they're saying I don't have to come back in for a live scan (since I've been cleared prior during enrollment). I just have to wait for them to notify me to pick up my ID badge for RLA hospital before Feb 11. Which will be the first day of clinicals!!

Is any one else going to Ranchos Los Amigos for their first clinical rotation? My information sheet just got cleared, and now I have to go through another live scan clearance for that hospital. County has the most tasking on boarding process!

Los Angeles County College of Nursing - Spring 2020
I ordered my stethoscope from the fundraiser. I received an email from the company today saying my order was shipped and will be delivered on 1/14/2020 to the school. So hopefully it will be there next Tuesday or Wednesday during our orientation.

I will be using my iPad for the textbook and taking notes. However, I haven't purchased the text yet. I will probably buy them during the week of orientation.

It was from Ms. Trina Trangone, she sent it to me this past Tuesday. I wonder why no one else got there on boarding email.

Los Angeles County College of Nursing - Spring 2020
I got an email for my on boarding process for Spring 2020 semester the day I posted about it. I got placed at Rancho Los Amigos for the first semester. I emailed the Admin staff about how clinical are assigned. To their reply, yes it is true, clinical placement is based on your home address, however; we do rotate to one of the main medical center either Harbor, LAC+USC, or Olive view for semester 2-4. I was concerned I would be stuck at Rancho for the entire program because of where I live. Check your emails (same email used for the application) for on boarding instructions. It's similar to the live scan info sheet we completed, but there are subtle important differences. @Terri Yim no portal for this, but remember after orientation we will be assigned a school email for all other updates.

Did anyone else get their first clinical placement? I was hoping I would be placed in one of the bigger medical centers especially since LAC+USC is 15min from me. Does anyone know how the clinical rotation work? Do we get rotated to all the county hospitals?

Don’t get stuck on one route
This is awesome! I agree, there are more ways than one to become an RN, BSN, MSN, DNP or whatever the goal is, and there are many excuses not to. The point is at what lengths (routes) are you willing to take to reach the end goal. It will take me 5 years to reach my goal. Your post is inspiring, so thank you for sharing. p.s. the best route is the one with less student loan debt.

AM I TOO OLD???
I actually think you need be realistic about the situation you may possible be in, then ask yourself is it what you really want to go through. Obviously from what others posted age isnt a problem with being in nursing school or passing boards. Are you in the right time and place to put in the sacrifice, hard work, and time to become on RN? There are far more important question to ask then if age is the reason you should or should not become an RN. I am just starting my ADN RN program at 32 years old. My sister (25y/o) is about graduating next spring with her BSN. My youngest sister (22y/o) is applying to my program next semester. There's no right age you just got to decide to make it the right time. @Cinda How bad you want to become an RN? or better what are you willing to sacrifice?... at your age.

LPN to RN without the bridge option
@kesha1128 I think that's smart to review the fundamentals before hand, that alone I know you will do well in school. To be honest I didn't even give the idea of doing the bridge because I knew I needed a to go through the generic program. I see it has building a stronger foundation to what I may already know or forgotten. As far as clinicals I know I will do well from working bedside for years, but going through it again from a RN student perspective is a good way of getting rid of old habits. To be clear this is my own personal opinions and I give high respects to those who do the bridge. Plus, my program is really close to home, affordable, and I have great support at home. So why not take an extra two semester if all it can do is benefit me more, at the expense of more suffering. haha.

Los Angeles County School of Nursing and Allied Health - Fall 2019
I agree with @Racmalone864 that LACONAH has a great reputation for breeding competent RN's based on clinical experience alone, and regardless of my commute I would chose this program. I haven't started the program yet, but I know this school is worth the hard effort. I have a lot of friends I worked with who has gone to Citrus College, Cypress, Mt. SAC, West Coast, APU, LLU, Rio Hondo for their RN. One thing I know CONAH has is it's unique relation to the county hospitals. Having clinical sites that support nursing students is a big deal for a great learning experience. I worked with some RN's who has gone to those programs that has only hung one or two bags of IV ATB or fluids and had only a hand full of bedside clinical experience in their entire program. I heard by the 4th semester will be managing 3-4 patients on our own. Furthermore, the school has several instructors who are graduates of the program and all of the staff are full time versus adjunct instructors you see in other programs. This could be a good thing meaning the instructors believe in the purpose and SLO of the program and want to part of the education of future nurses. Or simple because it's a county program and they have great benefits and pension for full time employees. haha. The way I see it is at the end, the nice instructors is not giving you what you need in order to be successful when you take the boards or land your first job as a floor nurse. From my experience, the easier the class is, the harder you must study on your own. I know I must learn to appreciate the difficult and challenging instructors. They are the ones who have the most assignments, hardest exams, they are the ones who are truly looking out for your best interests. We all know that there is nothing easy about nursing school. And each program is what you make of it.

Los Angeles County College of Nursing - Spring 2020
I recently just purchased a 3M Littmann Cardiology IV from the link the school gave us. It was the best price I could find since I've been on the market for one. I would suggest base your choice on the type of field you will/want to work in. I went all in and hope this will be my forever stethoscope for what I need.

We received an email from ------------ with the link to purchase the required ebooks and lab kit. Let me know if you like me to forward that to you. The email also mentioned that the book vendors will be available during orientation week. I won’t be purchasing my book till week of orientation. I ordered my scrubs the day of pre-registration and was told we will be notified sometime in December to pick them up from the school.

@itscindy Welcome back! I would’ve made the same choice. I believe CONAH is the best ADN program in making really great competent nurses. FYI: the day you go for your Live Scan is the day you take your picture for your ID badge.
