Los Angeles County College of Nursing - Spring 2020

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

I wanted to start a thread for those applying to the Spring 2020 Basic (Generic) program. The school website posted dates for an information session for prospective students. I'll be attending May 31, 2019, and wanted to see if anyone else is going to the same day or any of the other ones?

Application window opens June 15th for Spring 2020. I hope this thread will help answer admission/application questions and get connected with other applicants or those who are currently in the program.

@Vg380 3 hours! Thanks for sharing. Are you saying the live scan and the health clearance was done on the same day, same appointment?

Yes it was done on the same day you start with the livescan then go to health clearance which is in the same office building and right next to each other...for me personally I took longer because I had to take an X-ray which is in another location but still at the hospital...a nurse does all the clearance which is so convenient because whatever you don’t have she will give you...

Sounds great! So many steps to take in the admission process before we even start our first day of nursing school. Good thing we have some time to prepare

Hi guys! Congratulations to everyone. Can’t wait to see you all there on November first.
I have a question for you: When I went for the live scan & health clearance the nurse told me to go back in one month. She told me there is 3 steps required to completely finish everything. I want to know if they told you a same thing. I’m confused:(

no. I did everything in a week and I have my ID badge already. Can I ask what she said you needed? Cause you need 2 tb test. I did one with my clinic one week then when to the live scan, they took blood to see if I was immune to hep B ( I was). They also did the respiratory exam. This past Monday I went to my clinic and had the 2nd tb test placed and it was read at the HR by the nurse.
I was good to go. I got my iD yesterday

Oh nice! The nurse wasn’t nice honestly. She said it’s just a follow up, I have to go 3 times to finish the steps but I had all my immunization records with me from somewhere else bus she couldn’t read it. She made me to go to the hospital where I have all my records and get them very detailed. I was missing only my hep B and she gave me on the same day. That’s so weird. I’ll go to see them on November 1st maybe

I had so much trouble finding parking, I was about an hour late and very stressed. You can check out my facial expression on my ID ?. Anyway, I got frustrated because they didn’t accept my recent x-ray (from June or August), although it was done at the USC Verdugo hospital. Instead they tested for tb again and told me that if I tested positive I would have to do another x-ray. It upset me very much. Waiting in the lab took forever. I couldn’t leave until 6.15pm and I had come at 2.30pm to do the life scan.

Has anyone bought there books yet? If so some where? And is it possible to get hard cover books instead of the E-books?

Hard cover edition are available, but I believe the e-books are required because we need to access the online features for possible HW, quizzes, or test.

Have you bought any? Cause I find some for 300 then 700, it’s so confusing. Cause they lippincott website doesn’t specify what’s in the packages?

I haven't bought any books yet, but I will most likely just go off the list they gave us for purchasing.

I hope to get cleared from HR this week to get my badge.

Recap. If we ordered our scrubs from the fit day they will call us to let us know when to pick them up from the school?

They sent a direct link for the books and 50 dollars more for a printed copy. It’s a group order I believe for the scrubs
