Looking for accredited online A & P

Are there any schools that offer A&P online with lab? What do you guys recommend? Is it pricey? What was the workload like?

I know that University of Hawaii on several campus' does an online A&P. Hawaii Community College does both 1 and 2 in the summer so you can be done in 2 months if you are willing to hang with the workload.

It'll run you about $300 a unit. I haven't done their online A&P lab but I did the online chemistry lab and it was sufficient. I had prior chemistry so I was really just diddling around.

I know that the SUNY system ( the State of NY college/uni system) offers AP 1 & 2 online.

I did A&P I with lab, 8 weeks, through Georgia Military College. It was alright. Def a teach yourself kind of class, but I did just fine. I do feel it was much easier than what a regular A&P class is. In my opinion, that can be both good and bad. It was good because the class was a piece of cake, but it was bad because I retained nothing from it. I had to go back and teach myself the material after the class had ended so that I could pass the pre-nursing entrance exam and not be totally lost when I start NS. I did have to order a lab kit. If I remember, the tuition was around $750-$800 + books.

I did A&P II with lab, 8 weeks, through SUNY as the above poster said, at Cayuga Community College. The tuition was double for me since I was out of state. $1500 + books for the class. CCC is pretty big and some teachers have an all online lab component. However, some don't and require you to physically come in to a lab. If you choose this school, you can email the instructor prior to signing up and find out if the lab will be all online. That's what I did. The lab was a virtual simulation lab so I didn't need to order a kit. Communication with the admissions office and my instructor was excellent.

FWIW, I like ratemyprofessor.com (can I post that here?) to read about online professors from new schools.

Keiser university does A&P1 with lab online. My opinion, it is very tough and you retain barely anything due to the speed of the course. Every week you are expected to read anywhere between 2 to 4 chapters, do a virtual lab, and write about a condition and respond to 2 others about what was learned in the weeks chapters. You do not have anyone explaining anything to you, nor can you ask a question if it requires more than a couple of sentences to explain. The price is roughly $2000. If you have a basic understanding of anatomy it is possible to walk out with an A.

What were the virtual labs like? My local community colleges offer a summer in class a&p 1 and a hybrid where you have class online and lab in person. I work full time and am on call a lot, so the idea of a fully online lab appeals to me but I'm not so sure about having labs online....

The lab was on McGraw Hill's connect website and it consisted mostly of looking at actual cadaver pictures, x-rays and being able to name highlighted structure. The microscopic cells were quite tricky because you could not zoom out and find landmarks. The occasional questions were easy.

The only saving grace was not having a time limit to answer any of the questions.

University of Alaska Anchorage does online A&P. I took it and LOVED it!

Just a tip... Some nursing programs do not accept online for AP1 and AP2. My BSN program required that those two classes as well as Microbiology and Statistics, be taken in person. Good luck!

That is a good point that MyOwnBlueSky made about some nursing programs not accepting online courses. I applied to 5 different programs, luckily all accepted online. I did, however, email every school prior to applying to be sure.

You should check the thread above yours. I don't think A&P should be taken online. Like another poster stated that some schools don't accept online A&P classes and for good reason.

I also second confirming if the programs you are expecting to enter accepts A&P courses taken online. You wouldn't want to have paid all that money to take these classes online only to find out you have to take them all over again in person because your program will not accept them. I definitely agree that emailing those programs is in order before you take the steps.

You also have to remember that A&P can be an intense class for some (or all :p) and doing online courses really requires you to be a self-starter and be on the ball with what needs to be done. Personally, I couldn't take it online as I really am a hand-on, human interaction kind of learner, not not everyone is like me!
