Took my last pre req final .. AP2.. Yesterday, so my summer break started today. Family vaca to the Caribbean in two weeks. Then I take a summer class.. Nursing assessment ..the whole month of June. To the beach in early Aug. I start my BSN program mid August. I want to cook real food for my family, get back into an exercise schedule, take some road trips to see friends, kayak, read a good book or two, make pies with my kids, go camping, decorate, organize my house, learn something new maybe a language.

40 here, second career, been working on pre reqs and am starting my BSN program this fall. If you would have told me a few years ago that I was going to be going to nursing school I would have never believed. I agree with most posters that say if you have the energy, stamina to handle the stress of nursing school and the brain power... Go for it. Maybe find a program and start off slow with pre reqs and build from there. That's what I did. I took a couple of pre reqs at first and built up from there taking on more each semester. After getting into school mode, I finally made the decision to go for my BSN. Good luck! Good

I agree with other post... Do not live in Murfreesboro. The best school system is Williamson County ( Franklin/Brentwood). It is the county right next to us and is the hub for raising kids. Nashville (Davidson County) you will have to do some some searching for good public schools. Nashville on the west side is the Mecca for private schools. I have school age children. Mine are in private school. I would be happy to answer any questions. Nashville is an awesome place to live... Just have to find a good area/ neighborhood.

I completed my pre reqs at Nashville State CC and was just accepted into Belmont University BSN program which will graduate in 4 semesters. Nashville is def a place that is leaning toward BSN. I know a husband and wife I was in pre reqs with who have both completed pre reqs at NSCC and are now both at Belmont's BSN program. It looks like you could get those classes done in just 2 semesters if that is all you would need to qualify for acceptance into a BSN. The same classes would be required for an ASN but you might as well go for BSN since both would require 4 semesters considering that you only need those other classes like AP1 and 2 and Micro. But def check all the class requirements for any programs you are interested in. All pre req requirements are all on each schools website.

You will have to complete all the pre req courses just to get in to a BSN program if you haven't already. I started a year and a half ago. Started out slow doing the allowable accepted online pre reqs first then built up to the science in class requirements. To date I am in my last semester of pre reqs (Anatomy and Physiology 2 plus Microbiology) I was just accepted to my dream BSN program and start in Aug. and will take 2 years/ 4 semesters. My point is that you could start off slowly. Also do tons of research on the programs available in your area. If you do enough reading on here you will find how utterly competitive nursing programs are now. My best friend was a single mom of 3 small children and she made it. She sacrificed a lot but its all worth it now. Just remember its temporary and not forever and have a back up plan for everything. Good luck!

Applied to my top choice BSN program on Feb 1st. Got accepted Feb 26. Start in August 2014. Here we go!!

Just a tip... Some nursing programs do not accept online for AP1 and AP2. My BSN program required that those two classes as well as Microbiology and Statistics, be taken in person. Good luck!

40 here and start BSN program in August. I felt like you when I started pre reqs a year and a half ago. Time has flown by and just got my acceptance letter to the program of my dreams. To add, I am considering going for NP right after my BSN.

You do not have to have a BSN or RN to go directly to Nurse Practitioner. There are many grad schools that offer different ways of entry. The one in my area is called pre specialty entry and is an accelerated program.
