how long from boarding to secretary to comission

Published

I was boarded as a 1lt on dec 4th, the recruiter says that it needs to be signed off by the secretary of defense and then I get commissioned. says that takes 30-45 days. does anyone know anything about this. (other than hurry up and wait)

Hi Patty,

I was just wondering if you had heard from your recruiter for clarification. When I was boarded, I had no wait time at all. It was just a matter of coordinating schedules with my recruiter which was less than 5 days. I have never heard of anyone having to get anything signed off by the sectretary of defense before commission. Just curious to know what you found out.

My recuriter was off bc his wife has been it the hosp. with pancreatitis. (from a gall stone retrieval) anyway when I was boarded I was boarded pending age in grade waiver, the waiver just got signed and I get comissioned on 1/7/09 at 10am at the VA where I work. A co-worker will swear me in. how long does it take for us to get our sign on bonus?

Payment of your bonus (1st payment) should be made upon completion of your first year of service... the payment distribution time line and amount are in your contract which you signed.

Of course I don't know your individual circumstances..but that is the general time line for lump sum bonuses and for loan repayment payments.

he told me it would be at the start of my 1st year, start of my 2nd year and the start of my 3rd year

Hi,

My 1st installment of my "sign-on bonus" arrived in Oct. 2008 (I commissioned April 2008).

This is a bit long, but I had to wait for the new fiscal year to begin in October, because there was no funds..........I should have gotten the $$ in....maybe August, but my recruiter forgot to forward my paperwork to HRC incentives, where the bonus is generated. If your bonus is taking more than 3 months to reach you, call HRC incentives. They can tell you if they have all the appropriate paperwork and "when the $$ will drop." The 2nd installment will be at your year commission anniversary.

Good luck,

c.

Good for you!!!! Congratulations!!!! It's about time!!!!! lol!

they are giving me 1st LT with credit for being a 1st lt for 3 years, where does this go on the pay scale? the recr. says that is the most that they give, I thought I got constructive credit (years exp =16 devided by 2 = 8 yrs exp. does anyone get this? on the military pay scale at this site

your 16 years of exp was full time RN?

yes full time, 3 yrs constructive credit as a 1st lt and I would be eligible for a capt in a year so they say, dont know if anything includes the years you are supposed to have as a 2lt

At OBLC, I did not see a single "regular RN" who was higher rank than a first LT. (Only CRNAs, PA, MD, NPs----had CAPT. or higher)

p.s. you have to be commissioned at least one year before promotion........per HRC career guidance
