I was boarded as a 1lt on dec 4th, the recruiter says that it needs to be signed off by the secretary of defense and then I get commissioned. says that takes 30-45 days. does anyone know anything about this. (other than hurry up and wait)

Hello pattyrn376

Welcome to the wonderful world of the Army: "Hurry up and wait"

If you read other posted submissions you will see that oftentimes the "wait" period varies. I went to MEPS in June 2005, my packet was completed and accepted by the Board in NOV 05, I took the Commissioning Oath in May 06 and received orders for my TPU (I was in the Reserves back then) for Jun 06. So for me, it took a full 365 days before I had my DA AHRC-OPD-RA orders in my hand.

And, BTW, it is the Secretary of the Army (who is directed by the President) who "informs" you that you were given your appointment as a Commissioned Officer of the Army

Hopefully you will find out much quicker than I! :D Will you be in the Reserves or AD? Good Luck to you! Hey, let us know when your happy day arrives, okay?

Best to you,

athena

Hi,

I commissioned RC April 22 '08 and got my orders mid-June '08.--just under 2months. (that didn't include holidays though)

Good luck,

I got word that I boarded in November on the 24th and I commissioned on December 6,2008. I am still waiting on orders which I am told will arrive sometime after the New Year.

Don't know what your hold up is. Even my BF who is a MAJ w/ the Reserves is scratching his head in wonderment.

Ooh sorry, I didn't read your question correctly, my bad!

I was boarded March 20?, 2004 and was O.K.ed to commissioned April 10-14th.....something like that. Anyway, it was a few weeks, again without a holiday!

Good luck, it will come......

my guess it is the holidays, the recruiter told me it would be 30-45 days. I work for the federal govt and not a lot gets done in december. Bush gave another executive order this year giving us the day after xmas as a holiday for federal buildings but didnt do it til the last minute, just means I get another extra 12 hours pay on my check this pay period. Alot of vacations in december as well

i don't get it...... you boarded on the 4th of december....... Christmas was on the 25............ thats 21 days in between to get commissioned....... it doesn't take that long to get the ok.......... as I stated in a previous post.... i boarded on the 24th of november and I commissioned on the 6th of December. the reason for that being was because the unit I joined was having a dinner and the recruiter thought it would be nice if the other nurses that I had gotten to meet when I toured the CSH got to see me commission, so I waited till then, purely elective. I did not have to wait for anyone special (no secretary of defense/ no secretary of the army/ no president) to sign anything once I boarded it was a done deal. Anyway, I even had thanksgiving and the day after that thrown into the mix.

what am I getting at?????? Are you getting the correct story? I'm only saying this because I think you're also beginning to question what's up

I guess I didnt realize there was a step (going to the sec'y for a signature) between getting approval from the board and commissioning. I havent heard anything about it from any of the other posters here OR from my recruiter. Very interesting indeed.... Maybe its because I didnt require any waivers.

I had an age in grade waiver, the recruiter didnt realize I needed one til I was sent up for the november board. I may have gotten boarded pending waiver. he said that was a possibility in november. then dec. he said I was boarded, I thought a week was a little fast to get a waiver pushed through.

i just heard that i got boarded as as a 1lt in the army reserves, my age in grade waiver went through. i don't know how much "constructive" credit i will get but it will be some. i have heard 3-8 years, i have been an rn for 16 years (lpn for 8 yrs prior to that) anyone have any ideas about constructive credit and what difference it makes?

patty

according to your previous post that waiver already went through. we're trying to help you here and trying to have you figure out why things are taking so long for you. bottom line is, it does not take so long for people to get commissioned once they are boarded, a few of us have indicated that to you. there are no special little signatures that need to be obtained. you are another rn to them just like me, just like everyone else on this board that has volunteered. you sought them out, they didn't seek you out. we may all be doing it for different reasons but we all went to them.

the big picture right now is, patty: i'm a 1lt and you're not. i don't mean that to be catty, but i didn't sit there floundering, waiting for things to happen. i took action and kept after things. the way a officer does.

my recruiter is on vaca. I havent been able to get ahold of him. I will try again today

you don't have anything to prove to me....... It just seems something isn't adding up... call for your own peace of mind and to get things squared away.
