Lonestar Fall 2013 hopefuls

Published

Hi everyone!

I just submitted my application for the Fall 2013 Lonestar College basic track ADN program. LSC-Montgomery is my first choice, followed by LSC-North Harris, and LSC-Tomball.

I applied with an 11.81. Has anyone else out there applied, or are you preparing to apply?

Looking forward to starting a supportive and informative Lonestar thread, as applicants have the past few years

Yes hopefully one more week.. My friend said the tomball nursing department told her they are sending the letter the week after Easter! So next week! I applied to Montgomery first so hopeful they are all sending around the same time!

Oh that so exciting!!!!

Did you go through L1-Identity Solution to get your hands and fingers scanned? That is the next step, see the PDF link on my former post. If you did that already then just wait for your acceptance letter. I wouldn't worry about it since they told you everything was fine, but I'm sure that's easier said than done. I suspect just one more week and we should have letters. You could always call the nursing school to advise you on what to do next.

Yes I did the L1 identity back in july... if not earlier than that. I think I'm gonna try calling bon 1st and wait to see what they say then just wait on my acceptance letter. Thank you again for all of your help!

You said it much more concisely than I did...I'm gonna have to work on that or my nursing documentation is going to be a nightmare for others to read. (Grin)

Hey, you'll have the best defense documents in the world if you ever end up in court!

Hi all. I have applied to the ADN program with an 11.84, North Harris being my first choice.

Last year in the fall, I had applied to Kingwood, was accepted and was literally 4 days away from starting the clinical prep portion when I had a traumatic back injury and had to have 2 surgeries. So, I had to give up my spot in the nursing program. I have been recovering and should be ready to go in July. :yeah:

So, since I am a litte familiar with the process, I can also help answer some questions. The one piece of advice that I can give is DON'T delay starting the Hep. B shot. I left myself little time and was sweating making it by the deadline because they had moved it up that year.

I am going to provide a little timeline for you guys that might help keeping in mind that each campus may be a little different.

09/07/12 application period ended

10/01/12 received acceptance letter

10/08/12 orientation and letter of intent due (Lettter saying that you accepted and planned to enroll in the program)

10/30/12 received blue card

12/13/12 acceptance letter said all documentation and requirments due but I seem to remember that they moved it up to DEC 03 because we had to start the clinical prep course earlier that year than in years past. (dec 18th clinical pep stared -CNA's don't have to take this portion).

Right before orientation, we had to pay $45.00 dollars because we had undergo drug testing at orientation.

Also, at orientation they gave us the fast track form which we filled out there. That paper had our code on it. We were told that we needed to pay for and set up our fingerprinting appointment asap. That is what I believe should result in getting your blue card from BON. The fingerpringting was super quick and cost was under $50.00 (can't remember exactly).

Additionally, we also had to order social security verification which was $43.00 (but this is due with all the final paperwork as is CPR card which I paid $75.00 for).

We were also given info on the books at the orientation. Kingwood had a special book package which containded about 6 textbooks and one of the ones in there was needed for the clinical prep course. (that class btw cost about 85.00). The book package ended up costing a little over 500.00 but there were more books to buy before the start of the adn program but I don't think that was more than $200.00. Also you will buy a lab kit that is $95.00. I can't remember if you need that and a stethescope before the clinical prep course but I want to say we did. The good thing about the textbooks we were told, is that allthough the initial cost was high, those are the textbooks you use for the duration of the course. Once all the paperwork was submitted, within a week we enrolled in all our classes (they did that for us) and we had our shedules which included our clinical day (though not the clinical site).

Whew...I wrote a book but hope this gives everyone a rough idea of a timeline and idea of cost. Oh yeah, for tuition figure out what 10 hours will cost. That will increase if you don't have Pharm. completed which I would def. recommend taking before the program starts.

Here's hoping that we all get in (and if I do I actually get to start this time-:cautious:)

I remember reading your post when you became ill. I am so glad that you are recovering well!

Hi Nataliea15! I'm happy to hear you're recovering and getting ready for nursing school!

One question: Your timeline above mentions the letter of intent and orientation about a week after receiving the acceptance letter. Do you mean that orientation occurred VERY soon after acceptance, or did the actual session occur closer to the program start date?

Assuming I get in, I will have to shuffle my work schedule around if orientation occurs in the next couple weeks  !

Thanks lth1123. :)

Thanks lth1123.

The only reason that I posted about my injury and having to drop out is because I had allready bought ALL the books and supplies and was trying to sell them but the moderator edited my post. Luckily, the bookstore gave me a full refund.:)

I think I got my acceptance letter early april, had 10 days to accept/decline and then orientation was at the very end of May?

That timeline is correct. I remember freaking out that orientation was so soon. It's like it takes forever to get your letter, but once you get it, with all the things you have to do, time flies. I do remember the director telling us that things had been moved up that year so orienation might quite not be as soon. However, things do move quickly and they need to know who will be able to meet all the requirements to fill the spots. Then, the alternates are also waiting. For instance, if you don't pass the drug screen, then you're dropped. Don't have all your immunizations, you're dropped. etc. In any case, the acceptance letter will provide you with all that you have to do and the dates, including that of orientation.

There's also a lot less time to get everything done when you start in the spring. The fall usually has almost 5 months to get everything done vs the 2ish months between Spring acceptance letters and Cnristmas break. That has to be busy busy!

NH had two orientations last summer...one the last week in May and one the first week in June, I beeline.
