Hi everyone!
I just submitted my application for the Fall 2013 Lonestar College basic track ADN program. LSC-Montgomery is my first choice, followed by LSC-North Harris, and LSC-Tomball.
I applied with an 11.81. Has anyone else out there applied, or are you preparing to apply?
Looking forward to starting a supportive and informative Lonestar thread, as applicants have the past few years
Jen
They said that I was going to receive one but I never have. I talked to them before the application period even began and they said I would receive something in the mail in 45 but nothing yet. I guess I'll try to call them tomorrow after work and ask. Our mailman
I'm sorry, I meant to ask if you received a letter of clearance from them. You won't receive a blue card until your name is sent from a nursing program to the BON who in turn runs the background check. What happened last year was that I received my blue card first and my acceptance letter to the ADN program afterwards. I knew I was accepted to LSC when I got that blue card from also being accepted to a BSN program last year, which I turned down. You may be pleasantly surprised and get a blue card before you get a letter. (Grin)

So I will receive a blue card once a nursing school does my back ground check? I received a letter of clearance from the Bon last summer, I didn't know I would receive able card too. I just thought I give a copy of the letter to the school instead of a blue card.

To my knowledge, nursing programs are looking for a blue card so that they can photocopy it. When I was at the LVN orientation this past Monday, at the Montgomery Campus, a couple of people were asking about the Declaratory Order process, and the Director of Nursing was pretty emphatic that all they needed in the end was the blue card mailed out which states "all clear" on it. Also, I remember at the ADN North Harris orientation last year in May they said that they didn't want any background check paperwork, just the blue card. My advice would be to order a report from the FastPass people (it's like 25$) so that you have some form of documentation. And I am sure that you'll be accepted to the ADN program, so be sure to hold on to that blue card when it arrives. The Director of Nursing at the Montgomery Campus said not to give that blue card to any nursing program to keep, only to verify your clearance. Also, keep in mind that we all will go through this process again before we take the NCLEX exam at the end of the program.
I apologize to you and all on this forum for the long messages, but it's hard to explain the process without having to go into greater detail.

Don't apologize! I think we all appreciate any and all information you provide us with!! It is a great help to hear from people that have been through the process!!! Thank you!
So does that mean we need to order the background checks ourselves? Even if we dont have anything on our records? Or does the school run one for us when checking our apps and then we revieve the blue card in the mail? I'm Confused
They'll send you a long list of things to do when you get your acceptance letter (and they'll keep adding things to the list at hyperspeed until you graduate!). One of the many things is that you'll go get fingerprinted and pay for the background check. Then if you're clear, you'll get a blue card in the mail.

Each student is responsible for paying (50$ I believe) for the background check from http://www.l1id.com (L1-Identity Solution). This is the same website everyone will have to go through regardless of having a record or not. It is a national registry, so people who work at airports have to go through something similar as do people at chemical plants. The school doesn't "run" a background check. After the nursing program says, "Hey we want to accept Jessi29 to our nursing program" the school in turn sends your information to the TX-BON who then enters your information into a national database. Once you perform the background check through the L1-Identity Solution, it will be sent to the TX-BON who in turn mails you a blue post card. Does that make sense? I know it's a long process to explain, and I am probably giving you more information than you need or want to know.
Here is the document LSC and the BON use for a Petition of Declaratory Order. If you don't have anything on your record, then just goto Line #2 that states The BON requires a criminal background check. http://www.bon.texas.gov/olv/pdfs/DOapp.pdf
Honestly, if you don't have a record then I would just wait until you have an acceptance letter from the nursing school with instructions. I would only start this process beforehand if I knew I had a record since a petition needs to be sent to the State of Texas.
Let me know if that helps or made it worse. You can alway contact the school of nursing to see what they advise you to do. The Director of Nursing at the Montgomery Campus is REALLY awesome, and said she won't ask you what you did, but will only tell you what you need to do, so maybe that helps some people who are a little nervous.

You said it much more concisely than I did...I'm gonna have to work on that or my nursing documentation is going to be a nightmare for others to read. (Grin)
So what should I do since I haven't received anything yet? Will it keep me from getting accepted if I don't have the blue card?
Did you go through L1-Identity Solution to get your hands and fingers scanned? That is the next step, see the PDF link on my former post. If you did that already then just wait for your acceptance letter. I wouldn't worry about it since they told you everything was fine, but I'm sure that's easier said than done. I suspect just one more week and we should have letters. You could always call the nursing school to advise you on what to do next.

One of my friends who is in the ADN Program at North Harris works at Memorial Hermann Katy; she's a Unit Secretary on the 5th or 6th Floor.
