Lonestar 2011 ADN Hopefuls

U.S.A. Texas

I didn't see a thread on here for Fall 2011 applicants to the Lonestar nursing program, so I decided to start one.:) I will be applying to Montgomery as my first choice and am really nervous about taking the HESI test with all of the added components. I applied to Kingwood this past application period with an 11.5652 and got an alternate spot, competition was fierce. So, here I go again, hopefully I'll get in this time around. I'm really nervous about the A&P portion of the HESI. I feel like I've forgotten alot of what I learned. Any suggestions from anyone?

Good luck to all applying:)

Hi lindiux, am so sorry to hear this. I take my hesi on friday do you rem any info on the vocab and a&p sections. Thanks I really appreciate it and I so terrified right now.

was it really that hard? what was the a&p mostly about?

what about the vocab and grammar? does the hesi evolve reach study guide do a good job in helping you with that part of the test?

wow...this is very nerve racking...

Hello,

I took the test last Saturday and I am devastated because I failed A&P... It was my first HESI ever... My results were: Reading 95.65, Math 96, Grammar 86, Vocabulary 80 and A&P 68. So I won't be able to apply for the program. As you can imagine, I am so depressed.

I panicked on the last 2 sections, because after 4 hours I was the last one in the room and especially during A&P, when I realized I didn't remember things like "what is the cause that a childs eustaquian tubes become I forget what? Is it the length of the tubes? Is it the proximity with whatever?" I didn't know!!! Things like "if aldosterone is increased, what would happen: diluted urine, this or that change in arteries" there are 30 questions on A&P and 55 on all the other sections. I really messed up on my last 2 sections because I panicked and rushed... I finished the A&P section in 11 minutes, when I should have taken at least 30.

This is what I would recommend:

* Take your time, don't worry it you are the last one in the room. Just concentrate in your work. You will have a total of 5 hours and you can manage your time.

* Review everything in A&P so you will be prepared no matter what they ask. Note: the HESI guide is nothing like the test. You need to expand beyond the guide.

* Keep a protein bar or a fruit with you.

* Don't panic. If you notice you do, take deep breaths and continue working.

You will do fine, don't be afraid. Just prepare by doing the practice sections in the HESI guide, even though it has mistakes, it still helps you prepare and it gives you a good idea of what the test will be and what you need to know, except for A&P, please remember that.

I really wish I would have joined you for the fall semester, I really do. Best of luck to all!

What Causes Middle Ear Infection?

Many factors play a role in whether your child will get an ear infection.

The Role Of The Eustachian Tube

Ear infections almost always begin with swelling of the eustachian tubeglossary_icon.gif, usually because of exposure to bacteria, viruses, smoke, or allergens. When the eustachian tube is swollen, normal fluids formed in the middle ear cannot flow into the nose and throat.

  • The eustachian tube may also become plugged when the normally thin, clear mucus made by the lining of the nose and middle ear becomes thickened, such as when your child has a cold.
  • In infants and young children, the eustachian tube is shorter, narrower, and less rigid than in older children and adults, making it easier for bacteria from a cold to pass from the back of the nose and throat into the middle ear. In addition, a child's narrower eustachian tube is more likely to become obstructed.
  • When the eustachian tube swells and closes, it traps infected fluid in the middle ear and creates a breeding ground for germ

I just took the hesi today. My english composite score was a 91%, my a&p was 92%, and my maths was 82%, so I have an 11.64 now. I am so excited...good luck to everyone applying.

Congratulations!

How was a&p? and grammar? and vocab?

howd you study for the those?

wow...

For the a&p I studied with a&p for dummies, my a&p notes, and my a&p tests, but I think the a&p was really basic...although everyone gets different questions because the test comes from the test bank I didn't study for the grammar and it was the easiest and my highest scored...it was mainly which word is grammatically correct or incorrect, but the study guide really prepares you for that. The study guide was not very helpful for the vocab. I had just 5 questions from the vocab study guide the rest I just sat down there trying to figure out what the answers were, and I scored an 84. My advice will be to study the hesi study guide for all sections and refresh your notes on a&p. I would also recommend that you take your time, cos I spent 7 hrs taking the test...if I didn't know the answer I sat down there for 10-15 min thinking. Good luck again.

so does the vocab have a lot of medical terminology?

or just general vocab...?

thanks for the advice...and now all you have to do is apply and wait for your letter..

yes it has both medical terminology and general words, there was one about "what is a child that isut just learning how to walk called" I guessed on some of them based on the options provided, but again it wasn't that bad. If you study you would do great I have been studying since the winter break esp for a&p.

child learning how to walk?..a toddler? lol.

thanks for the advice...i registered for feb 15..which is a really long time from now...so i should have enough time to study...

Do you mean everybody have different question? I guess the comprehension is the same if the passage is One dollar bill, phobia etc. Just asking because a friend of my sit for the test today at cyfair. My question is, do you have the same as above chikzzy?

I had a one dollar bill and a phoebia passage, but my vocab and my a&p were completely different from what my friends had. Louroque that shld really be enough time to study, I already applied today but I'll turn in my application on monday. I just believe the cut off this year will be low, cos the nursing dept already admitted that pple are not doing well on the hesi. Good luck to all of us.

I dont think the question are different for everybody. I have the same passage as mentioned above with medical terminology. Even though the question are pulled from question bank, they're all the same with everybody except the way the number is been tally.
