Lonestar 2011 ADN Hopefuls

U.S.A. Texas

Published

I didn't see a thread on here for Fall 2011 applicants to the Lonestar nursing program, so I decided to start one.:) I will be applying to Montgomery as my first choice and am really nervous about taking the HESI test with all of the added components. I applied to Kingwood this past application period with an 11.5652 and got an alternate spot, competition was fierce. So, here I go again, hopefully I'll get in this time around. I'm really nervous about the A&P portion of the HESI. I feel like I've forgotten alot of what I learned. Any suggestions from anyone?

Good luck to all applying:)

Hey guys...im also an ADN hopeful..im gonna apply at cyfair this fall 2011.

I have a question...have you guys logged on to the ADN application? What can you all see?

Do you see your current points?

I logged on and i see all the tests i took and all the courses i have taken and thats it...

And im really scared too coz it says at the top that i dont meet the minimum math competency requirement. I have taken all the pre reqs and everything but it says that i havent passed Math 0308...? I thought that i was exempted coz i took the compass and got a good score thats why i didnt have to take math...and this wasnt really a problem back when i tried to apply for spring 2011..i mean i successfully applied ...obviously i didnt get in..lol. but yea...and they never told me i needed to take a math class...

what do you guys think this means? is this an error or do i have to take math 0308 or wi have to take another placement test? i have my heart set out on applying this 2011...and i hope this math requirement thing doesnt ruin it..im nervous.

EDIT: okay..so i logged on again and now i can see the application and my current scores and everything

it says its fine now and im now ready to fill out an application.

did i get scared for nothing?!!

Hi louroque have you taken the hesi? if yes, was the a&p section basic or more detailed? i'll really appreciate any info on this section thanks.

I dont think any of us here have taken the hesi...

since you have to register to take it..there are certain dates on when you have to take it.

the first one i think is this saturday january 15...so..well ask then..when people have taken it.

but i am pretty nervous for the a&p...as well as the reading part since that messed me up the last time i took the hesi...

right now i only have the evolve reach review guide...anyone have any good study guides?

A friend of mine took it yesterday and she failed the grammar and vocabulary section. She said the a&p were very basic stuff, so am scared of the vocab section now...does anyone haveany study guide suggestions for the vocab? i'll really appreciate it.

what was in the vocab and grammar section? what did she use to study?

was it really that hard?

she used the hesi study guide, but I heard most of the vocab questions were medical...I am really scared I am taking mine next week friday.

we're all pretty nervous about the hesi...hopefully everything will be fine...

has anyone else taken the hesi yet?

Hi everyone :)

I am also a Fall 2011 hopeful at Lone Star. I mostly attend the Montg. campus, but this semester I will be at to NH for my Micro & Pharm. Montg is my first choice but I honestly don't think I will get accepted there, if I get accepted at all. The scores to get in there have traditionally been 11.5, so even if my HESI score is in the 90's, I will still only have an 11.366.

At this point I am just praying to pass all sections of the HESI, like everyone else and will happily accept a spot at any campus. I'm studying my HESI study guide right now.

I am curious to see how much these added sections along with them increasing the passing score from 70% - 75%, will ultimately effect the overall scores at each campus. I'm going to take the HESI next Saturday. Good luck to you all !!!

If anyone already took the hesi or know someone who has taken it...i hope you guys share some info..or tips...we would all really appreciate that.

Hello,

I took the test last Saturday and I am devastated because I failed A&P... It was my first HESI ever... My results were: Reading 95.65, Math 96, Grammar 86, Vocabulary 80 and A&P 68. So I won't be able to apply for the program. As you can imagine, I am so depressed.

I panicked on the last 2 sections, because after 4 hours I was the last one in the room and especially during A&P, when I realized I didn't remember things like "what is the cause that a childs eustaquian tubes become I forget what? Is it the length of the tubes? Is it the proximity with whatever?" I didn't know!!! Things like "if aldosterone is increased, what would happen: diluted urine, this or that change in arteries" there are 30 questions on A&P and 55 on all the other sections. I really messed up on my last 2 sections because I panicked and rushed... I finished the A&P section in 11 minutes, when I should have taken at least 30.

This is what I would recommend:

* Take your time, don't worry it you are the last one in the room. Just concentrate in your work. You will have a total of 5 hours and you can manage your time.

* Review everything in A&P so you will be prepared no matter what they ask. Note: the HESI guide is nothing like the test. You need to expand beyond the guide.

* Keep a protein bar or a fruit with you.

* Don't panic. If you notice you do, take deep breaths and continue working.

You will do fine, don't be afraid. Just prepare by doing the practice sections in the HESI guide, even though it has mistakes, it still helps you prepare and it gives you a good idea of what the test will be and what you need to know, except for A&P, please remember that.

I really wish I would have joined you for the fall semester, I really do. Best of luck to all!

Well, I'm out as well lindiux. A&P kicked my butt. I made a 72. I really thought I was prepared for this section, but it asked questions that just threw me for a curve. I keep kicking myself, because if I had gotten just one more question right I would have been able to apply but now, I have to wait even longer. This is really devastating to me because I was an alternate at Kingwood and didn't get a call and was putting all my hopes on getting in this semester. I feel like I'm never gonna get in. I'm going to keep trying, but this definately was a big blow. Good luck to everyone else.

Dear Songbird, I know how you feel. I'm trying to figure out a way to better understand what I missed. From your experience, do you have any suggestions?
