Lonestar 2011 ADN Hopefuls

Published

I didn't see a thread on here for Fall 2011 applicants to the Lonestar nursing program, so I decided to start one.:) I will be applying to Montgomery as my first choice and am really nervous about taking the HESI test with all of the added components. I applied to Kingwood this past application period with an 11.5652 and got an alternate spot, competition was fierce. So, here I go again, hopefully I'll get in this time around. I'm really nervous about the A&P portion of the HESI. I feel like I've forgotten alot of what I learned. Any suggestions from anyone?

Good luck to all applying:)

Stayfocus--- any word on dad?

Now at the 16th just a 15 days away til April 1st... Lets all cross our fingers toes and eyes that we get notices at the EARLY part of April ................ :-) the waiting is EXCRUTIATING

I just want to say Thank You guys

I am so terribly sorry to hear about your father. Are you okay? I recently lost my grandfather and nearly lost my grandmother. Like you, I know my grandpa is living a better life with Jesus Christ and he is no longer suffering or in pain.

I applied to Lonestar 2009 and didn't get in and now I have my associates in science and got accepted into PVAMU CON Fall 2011. Never give up and if you don't get into a ADN go for your BSN. Best of Luck everyone.

I agree with you NavyVet28, same here. I got accepted at PVAMU and UT both. I have been trying to get into the programs since 2009. I wasted my full whole year of 2009 at HBU for nothing. This time I applied to several programs as my back up. Now, I can atleast choose the program I would like. I applied last semester at Lonestar Cyfair but didn't get in. You are absolutely right, this is my advice to everyone... just do not give up. Try and try again by working on grades and Hesi scores. Try to apply almost every program LVN, RN, BSN that is available in Houston as a back up. It will be worth it after the acceptance. Good Luck you all!

Out of my past experience, I would like to share the strategy that I have used finally, to get into the program. I have wasted my time and money as I was lost in the 'A' game, I meant "the acceptance game." It could be easily avoided if I would have followed my progress differently.

Here are some tips that will help hopefuls to get into nursing programs:

1. Donot only focus on your GPA, Try to get good grades like A's. Try not to repeat. Some schools like UT does not like repeats or withdraws.

2. Complete all of your pre-reqs and get Associate first. That way you would be exempt from TSI requirements.

3. Take all of your sciences at the end, that way they will be up to date. If I am not wrong, some institution do not accept science courses if they are older than 3 - 5 yrs, if you want to use then for BSN after completing your RN.

4. Take RNSG 1301 if college provides. Even though some Universities would not accept pharmacology from other institution as it is considered as upper division nursing course. You have nothing to loose taking this course again at the University because you will see pharmacology throughout the nursing program. As much as you practice pharmacology you will do good in NCLEX exam.

5. Most importantly, as soon as you finish your A&P take the HESI Test, that way it will be fresh in your brain. You will just need to refresh your memory by studying the guides. Use several guides from the library. Do not just depend on Evolve. Keep studying the Vocabulary when surfing the internet. Get a critical thinking for nursing and study that one if your Hesi require critical thinking portion.

6. Get a CNA licence and always have an active CPR. CNA certification shows your interest toward the program. This is your first step of Nursing.

7. Try to work or volunteer at Healthcare facilities even if it is PRN position. It will look good on your status and resume when applying for BSN.

6. Now, apply to several programs that is available and within in your choice list. Donot just count on one program. You will be putting yourself in huge risk. Apply for LVN, RN, BSN by using step by step method. You can proceed to nursing one step at a time or you may apply seperately, if you feel you are ready and complete.

7. Lastly, get used to with stress and time restraint. Stress will be your best friend for a while.

Hope this helps...:nurse: Good Luck!

Stayfocus---- My heart goes out to you regarding the death of your dad. I pray that God comforts you and your family during this time. I know that my family loves Jesus too. Especially my Granny who passed away when I was 16. There are still days that I miss her terribly. Take care of yourself and give yourself plenty of time to process all of your emotions.

stayfocus,

Sorry to hear about your loss. I can't imagine how painful that must feel. But someone who does know is God our Heavenly Father and you can rely on him for comfort and peace through this trying experience!

I know that we can be with our family again after this life. It doesn't make it any easier while we are here on earth without those we love, but we can have hope and motivation to get back to where they are.

Here are two youtube videos I really love to watch when I am going through hard times...I hope they bring peace into your heart and help you to know that you are not alone in your trials... :)

Stayfocus, I hope you're doing ok. I know how hard it can be to lose a parent (mine died in the hospital as well and I still cry now and then when I think about the day). I will continue to pray for you and your family. I really believe that one day we will all reunite.

I want to Thank everyone for all the prayers and support, greatly appreciate it.

This will take some time but I know that I can get through this...

March is almost over.... Its getting closer and closer...

UGH! Yesterday I went over to the clinic because I had to get my second varicella shot for the CNA class I am taking. I already had chickepox when I was itty bitty but that was more than 20 years ago ----who keeps their papers that long----- so it was either get stuck a couple more times OR get one of those titers. I heard they were expensive --- so I figured it would be easier to get the shots. I had all my other shots even the Hep A which is not listed as a requirement. Have any of you all taken the AHA CPR class yet? If so, let me know where you got it and what you think.....I figure I might get that out of the way while I am TRYING to PATIENTLY wait..... :-) :-) ONLY A FEW MORE WEEKS LEFT :lol2::lol2::lol2::lol2::lol2::lol2::lol2::yeah::lol2::lol2::lol2::lol2::lol2::nurse::nurse::nurse::nurse::nurse::nurse:

Hi Everyone,

I've been on Spring Break vacation with my family and just back last night.

Stay Focus, I am so sorry for your loss and I will keep you in my prayers.

It looks like we've all survived the waiting so far and only have couple of more weeks to go~ Yea!!!:yeah:

I am having such a hard time staying motivated in my Micro class this semester. Unlike many I have talked to I don't "love" it... in fact I hate it!!! I love my professor and she is wonderful, but I hate the subject and the tediousness nature of it, so I am hanging on by a thread just to get through it. How is everyone else doing this semester with their classes?
