Lonestar 2011 ADN Hopefuls

Published

I didn't see a thread on here for Fall 2011 applicants to the Lonestar nursing program, so I decided to start one.:) I will be applying to Montgomery as my first choice and am really nervous about taking the HESI test with all of the added components. I applied to Kingwood this past application period with an 11.5652 and got an alternate spot, competition was fierce. So, here I go again, hopefully I'll get in this time around. I'm really nervous about the A&P portion of the HESI. I feel like I've forgotten alot of what I learned. Any suggestions from anyone?

Good luck to all applying:)

Hi Everyone,

I've been on Spring Break vacation with my family and just back last night.

Stay Focus, I am so sorry for your loss and I will keep you in my prayers.

It looks like we've all survived the waiting so far and only have couple of more weeks to go~ Yea!!!:yeah:

I am having such a hard time staying motivated in my Micro class this semester. Unlike many I have talked to I don't "love" it... in fact I hate it!!! I love my professor and she is wonderful, but I hate the subject and the tediousness nature of it, so I am hanging on by a thread just to get through it. How is everyone else doing this semester with their classes?

That was supposed to be "tedious" not tediousness. Duh:p

Thank you TxDiscoDiva, sorry to

Hear about micro but I hated that

Class as well, I did enjoy the labs

And watching the bacteria grow..

But its almost over...so just hang

In there...good luck...

I took micro last fall. I made the mistake of taking it at the same time as AP2 while working a full time job.... PAINFUL is all I can say! I can relate..... I was so worn out after that. The sad thing is micro could really be fun and interesting if I had more time and energy to devote to it. Also the professor I had was REALLY obnoxious which took away some of the fun. I got through the class thankfully but it literally took all I had energy wise so I can relate to how you are feeling. Keep up the good work and it will be over soon. One of the things that helped me was to x off the days on my syllabus so I would think--- only 7 classes left, only 6 classes left....

Micro lab was cool but lecture wasn't so much.

Huh, that's a great idea Katlady. I am thinking with a Big Bold Sharpie!!:rotfl: Wow you are are brave!! I can't imagine taking this class along with A&P2. I would lose my mind for sure!! I had my 2nd practical yesterday and it will be a miracle if I made a lousy 60 and our 2nd exam is tomorrow. These exams are like finals in all the other classes I have had so far. They include way too much information on each one. A friend took this professor too and said she gives a big extra credit practical at the end for everyone with D's & F's. I hate it because I know this will bring my good gpa down(3.45), but I just want to pass it at this point and move on to the ADN program. HOPEFULLY:rolleyes:

Girl, i know what you mean... I had a 4.0 gpa then I took THAT class and it ruined it .... I earned a C... but by that time I was just so freakin thankful to be out of there ..... I did not take the "extra credit" practical cuz it wasnt like it was gonna earn me a B .... even if I made a 100 on the extra credit practical I still would have had a c...about halfway through the class I started a new study tactic... my prof has a paper packet with alot of pictures and stuff in there and it was overwhelming to look at all those pages and study with all that mess all over ... so I would make a "studysheet" in prep for each test... I would write small and put as much on about 3 pages as I could fit and I would do this about a week or two in advance and that is what I studied from ... it helped me alot because the first test or so I failed but then when I did this I got b's after that ... also the labs---- I made color flash cards out of the specific visual representations... if you follwo these steps you are bound to improve too.... it condenses the info into chunks your brain can manage and also because you are writing the info there is a higher liklihood you will remember because by then you have already heard it/seen it.... Hope this helps you to pass and not repeat:nurse::nurse::nurse::nurse::nurse::nurse:

Hello everyone! I am new to this all nurses thing so just checking it out. I applied as first choice at Tomball so just waiting for an acceptance letter (hopefully) :D but this waiting is driving me CRAZY :banghead: Ahaha... I think the mailman believes I am stalking him!!

WELCOME Ms. Yellow Butterfly!!!!! Waiting is apart of the excitment!! lol...

I took micro last semester and I completely understand how you all are feeling! I have a 4.0 but I thought I drove myself crazy and think that I burned myself out after taking that class. I made an A by the skin of my teeth!!! It did not seem to matter how hard I studied. Me and those lecture exams did not get along!! lol... I thankfully after thinking I did not do so well on the last lab made a 95. Also I was really blessed because I ended up the same bacteria on my unknowns!!! I was like you all I counted down the days!!!! Don't give up there is always hope and if you have an unknown that will bring up your grade.. And yes, it is almost over!!! YEAH.. and the day that class was over for me I celebrated!!!!

It sounds like maybe you had the same professor. I also have the hand out packet she wrote that coincides with her ppt's and you're right it's so many pages I get overwhelmed trying to look at all of them.:confused: I began to rewrite my notes like she suggested after the 1st exam about 3 weeks ago but then life got in the way and I never finished them. I took English in a mini-mester over Christmas break so I believe that is the main thing leading to my extreme burnout. I'm so unmotivated for this class. The labs are fun but the rest of it is not really very interesting to me like mot of A&P was. Right now I'm surrounded by half finished flash cards with Genus names of viruses, fungi etc. that I should have done before Spring Break. Instead I'm fantasizing about burning them in a huge bond fire!! I made a 52 on the 1st exam, my lowest grade ever :crying2: and 12.75 points extra credit for an mini test on Operon's. I am hoping the Micro Biology fairy :tinkbll:will visit me tonight while I'm sleeping so I can somehow make a C tomorrow, because truthfully I don't know 1/2 of this crap and YES I too will be celebrating after this class is over!!!!!
