Okay, for all of us that did not get into the Lone Star Fall 2010 program and are trying again for the Spring...here we go again.
I'm retaking AP2 this summer (I have a B so now I want an A) to increase my points. After that I just don't know what else to do because I have all co-reqs completed, CPR done and Immunizations done. What are your plans to increase your chances of getting in for the Spring?
I finally got my 2nd Hep B shot this morning. Does anyone know if you can get the 3rd one early? I know I heard that if you are accepted you have to have them all 3 completed by 12/1. If that's the case I would not have them done unless I can get the last one early. We are getting so close!!!! It's already the 20th... just a few more weeks of this agonizing waiting game!
From the Lone Star Nursing Dept site:
"You will be required to have your Hepatitis B immunizations completed before you attend clinicals."
We do not do clinicals until our 2nd semester.
Here is another link for immunizations:

Also...it said on the Application Deadline section that "Notification Letters Sent Out" (for Kingwood) in September:yeah:
Go to the Harris County Health Center and you can get a Hep A/B combination shot that only takes 6wks to complete.
There was a sheet at Kingwood in the nursing department in the Information area that shows in bold that the Hep B should be done by 12/1. Don't know if that's just a scare tactic to get it done before January but the advisor told me to hurry and get mine started back in June.
That's why I just went ahead and got the fast track one done at the Health Clinic...all of my shots for about $20.
When I applied at Kingwood they only wanted proof of first shot in the series. Hmm that would put most people too far out to have them completed by December. Mine will be finished before Classes ever begin but NOT before 12/1. The actual statute from the state is that they must be completed before patient contact. That isn't until the second semester. There is alot of conflicting info its very confusing!
It is very confusing! And everyone has different info about it. That's the most frustrating part is that there isn't any definite answer on any of the department websites. I can't remember if they discussed it back in July when I went to the info session, but I had already started that fast track series along with the rest of the shots and TB.
Maybe it is just a scare tactic to get people on the ball to get it done before coming in contact with a patient?
Could be a scare tactic. The only info session I have ever gone to was at Montgomery and they just said it had to be completed before clinicals. That was it. It is also not on any paperwork I have. Not on any checklist or anything. I am confused by the 12/1 date for kingwood? When they only asked for proof of the first shot when you turned in your app.
I would guess that it's a scare tactic because how would they even know if it was completed by 12/1 when they send the application letter? And then you accept or deny it and go to orientation the 2nd week of December--which is after the 1st, and that's where they ask for your shot records. At least this is how it was done in the past.

Exactly.

I heard from someone who is now taking her first semester at CyFair that they are learning the nursing skills the first semester, then are qualified to sit for the CNA license, and they don't start clinicals until the 2nd semester. And they had their orientation 6 weeks before classes started.
