Okay, for all of us that did not get into the Lone Star Fall 2010 program and are trying again for the Spring...here we go again.
I'm retaking AP2 this summer (I have a B so now I want an A) to increase my points. After that I just don't know what else to do because I have all co-reqs completed, CPR done and Immunizations done. What are your plans to increase your chances of getting in for the Spring?
Michelle-hey study buddy...shouldn't we be doing our Pharm charts??!
That's what I thought, too. Why would we have that basic care class that has to be done before entering the program if we weren't going to start immediately? Maybe Kingwood is different from CyFair.
Those sheets I was talking about were in the Nursing Department at Kingwood. I don't think you can find them online (at least I didn't). That sheet was where I read at the bottom that the Hep B needed to be finished before 12/1 and the applicant needed to be prepared to take the Basic Nursing Care Class right after the Fall Semester ends.
I'm so tired of speculating!! I just want to know instead of everyone being confused!
On the CyFair nursing website on one page: Deadlines
Hepatitis B
For the ADN, LVN and Transition programs, you must be Hepatitis B complete by the following dates. Hepatitis B complete means you have received a series of three (3) immunizations.
Fall Semester - July 1st
Spring Semester - December 1st
And on another CyFair nursing page: Immunizations
Hepatitis B
The Hepatitis B vaccine is given in three separate doses over a two to six month period. The series must be completed before any student is allowed to participate in a clinical class. As this requirement is now state law, no exceptions can or will be made. Since the Hepatitis B series takes six months to complete, we advise prospective students to at least begin this series before turning in their nursing admissions application.
All of the information is definitely overwhelming.
I just went to the Lone Star Kingwood 2010 thread and was reading everything. It appears that Kingwood does start clinicals right away because a few of them had MT lecture/skills lab and then their choice of a clinical day. The one girl did M/T-lecture/skills lab and Sat clinical. Kingwood is not like any of the other campuses because they only go 2 days during the week and then a whole day for clinical. Do the other campuses go M-F from 8ish-3/4ish?
Wow! Reading that thread is making me more anxious and excited!! Can't wait to get the golden ticket of acceptance or denial :)
Fruity Pebble - what is the schedule like at CyFair? Is it M-F? Just in the mornings or is there an afternoon option?
This is what I found from a post made by lilag02 on March 28, 2010. The title of the thread was Lonestar College Cyfair ADN Fall 2010.
She looked up the schedule and found this:
Monday- 9-11:30 or 12:30-3 (Health Assessment 8/30-12/19)
Tuesday- 9-11:30 or 12:30-3 (Nursing Skills I 8/30-10/22 & Nursing Skills II 10/26-12/19)
Wednesday- 9-11:30 or 12:30-3 (Nursing Skills I 8/30-10/22 & Nursing Skills II 10/26-12/19)
Thursday- 8-12 or 12:30-4:30 (Intro to Nursing 8/30-10/22)
Online- Legal and Ethical Issues for Nurses 10/25-11/21
I am pretty sure the Thursday class will be 8am-2pm and both morning and afternoon classes will be mixed in the upcoming semester (they've changed it). Don't quote me on that, though.
Kingwood starts clinicals the first semester.
CyFair does clinicals every other semester--starting the second semester.

I didn't realize that KW doesn't offer clinicals until the 2nd semester. That is surprising...I don't recall hearing that. I thought we did the RNSG 1172 Preparation for Basic Care in the minimester before the spring semester so we would be ready to go for clinicals in the first semester??
