Lone Star Spring 2011

Published

Okay, for all of us that did not get into the Lone Star Fall 2010 program and are trying again for the Spring...here we go again.

I'm retaking AP2 this summer (I have a B so now I want an A) to increase my points. After that I just don't know what else to do because I have all co-reqs completed, CPR done and Immunizations done. What are your plans to increase your chances of getting in for the Spring?

I'm confused about the scoring chart. The 4 points from the HESI test only come from the reading section? is that correct? I'm going to be applying in the spring. Should i start getting my immunizations done?

I have an A in the three main classes and have taken all my pre q except one..microbiology. I guess its all up to my HESI test. I just bought the study guide. I have read posts that it doesn't help. Does everyone agree with that? and does anyone have more advice on the reading section?

thanks so much!

Yes, the score sheet takes your Reading score and divides it by 25 to get those points. And the study guides helped me... also I looked up reading questions on the internet and practiced those as well. You can read a post I wrote a while back:

I managed to get a 100 on the Reading portion of the HESI by studying the HESI evolve reach Admission Assessment Exam Review and the HESI Admission Assessment Study Guide. The questions on the Reading portion are kind of tricky so you have to really read and re read to make sure you know exactly what point they are emphasizing. Sometimes there can be 2 answers that are correct, but one is more correct than the other. I laugh when I read some people say not over-think it, but IMHO, you must over-think it to see every angle in which the question is posed. If you miss the emphasis, you could miss the question.

Hope that helps! And good luck to you!

thank you very much FruityPebble. 100 is awesome! good job! :yeah:

my pleasure!

please someone check my info but it was my impression that cyfair (and cyfair alone) has a 18 month program. the kingwood people will grad in december(unless they are one of the few who will get to do some kind of special summer deal). all of the others are 24 months. we graduate in aug not dec. double check but i'm pretty sure i'm right.:)

well, i called cyfair's nursing dept today and asked this very question; is the adn program 18 months or 24 months. the lady instantly said it's 24 months, then after i questioned her on it she put me on hold and returned to confirm that cyfair does not offer an 18 month program. :(

I didn't prepare at all for the HESI and made a 95.65 in reading. My sister-in-law didn't prepare at all and made over 98 having missed only one question. But fruitypebble used the official HESI book and made a perfect score.

It doesn't matter when you are applying, you should start getting your shots now. Why now? They protect you from diseases. Since you have to eventually get them, get them now. It takes 6 months to get all of the hepatitis shots. You are required to be immunized against hepatitis B. But you can and should get immunized for both hepatitis A and B at the same time. Why? Why is anybody even wondering? Because we're going to be nurses! We're going to be around sick people all of the time. Get every immunization you can. I can just picture the average nursing student with a hep A patient. The student will be thinking "I should have gotten those shots long ago!"

you are right, i was misinformed. i am very disappointed to find out we have an "extra" semester:eek:

thank you very much jpchouston. Hopefully i will be as smart as y'all in reading :) i will start my shots right away! thanks again!

Congrats FruityPebble on your perfect score, that is such a great accomplishment.

Hi everyone! I have been reading all of the posts on this site and finally decided to join in on the fun! I am super nervous as many of you are... I have the lowest score I have seen on this site which makes me even more anxious to get a letter (even if it says I'm not in). I am applying to Cy Fair with an 11.4784. I was so disappointed in myself when my reading score came up... I just couldn't believe it. I know that I am smarter than that... I just don't what happened! A little bit about me... I am the mother of 2 daughters, ages 4 and 2 (very busy)! I am a stay at home mom since I was laid off from my job a little over a year ago. That's what made me decide to go back to school for my nursing degree... I want a career not another crappy job! I have been with my husband for 7 years now. I am originally from Allen, Texas, just north of Dallas, but moved here to be closer to my husband's family. I hope to see everyone next semester! :)
