Lone Star Spring 2011

Published

Okay, for all of us that did not get into the Lone Star Fall 2010 program and are trying again for the Spring...here we go again.

I'm retaking AP2 this summer (I have a B so now I want an A) to increase my points. After that I just don't know what else to do because I have all co-reqs completed, CPR done and Immunizations done. What are your plans to increase your chances of getting in for the Spring?

bugalove - go to this link and it has another link to the "One day a week program" web page that has a list of frequently asked questions. I think this is their first go at an online program. LSC-North Harris Nursing Department

Hina - I went to the Harris County Public Health Clinic in Humble. 1730 Humble Place Drive Humble, TX 77338-5275

Was the online program for RN or just for LVN?

Anyone know if the NH online program starting in the fall will be for RN? And how do they determine if you get into the online program vs. their regular program?

The Quest online program from Kingwood was for RN's. The NH online program is also for RN's, but I don't know how you get into it vs getting into the in-person classes???

I think we were in the same row! I didn't make a peep...I'm super shy so I don't say anything in public-especially in a big group!

And we are going to have to start a support group for Moms that are away from their children. I would say it gets better, but I cry every time my daughter leaves!!

I didn't hear any other things that helped me out any more and I stayed until the last person was asking her questions (the girl with the baby)

I'm guessing that if people wanted to...you could go to school on M-T-W and be done until the next week. That would be nice, but I think I will be trying to get a saturday clinical.

Jennifer, I would never guess you were shy :). I wish I would have known that was you!! I'm sure it gets better w/ leaving our babies, but I am really going to have to think this one through..........I'm debating on the saturday clinicals. I may try to do one during the week, and then work a short day at work on Sat. hmmm.....

My computer won't let me open the files for FAQ's! I def need a new computer before I start classes.

Can't believe there were so many people at the session...hopefully most of them aren't applying!

I think we were sitting in the same row!!?! Maybe??! I was looking at everyone in scrubs...do you work at a dialysis clinic?

I was sitting against the wall and there was a lady that came in late and stood in front of me in between rows.

I don't know what's going on with their online program either...maybe NH will have better luck with it?

I'm glad she made the point to say that they really try and help everyone pass instead of failing people as soon as they get in the program...I guess that makes me feel a teeny bit better??!

I'm pretty sure I was sitting right next to you, blonde hair, black shirt and jeans (there were so many people, so I doubt that helps) ! A girl came in and stood in between our row and the one in front of us. I'm super shy/quiet (warning: at first only) lol:)

so, we were all at the same table????????? ha! that is just crazy.

jpinkard - Yeah! I was looking at your bracelet!! I love it! How crazy we were all in the same row?!

Michelle - I am very shy, but once the door opens it is a whole different story. I can't believe the coincidence that we were all next to each other. I keep hoping the separation anxiety gets better, but with my daughter about to start kindergarten I'm about to be back at the bottom rung of the ladder. We are all in transition! Decisions decisions.

Finally got the NH Online program information to pop up on my computer. There's only 30 spots and they want someone with a bachelor's degree and/or healthcare experience so it seems that's completely out for me. I would guess that program will be MUCH more difficult to get into than any other program at any other campus.

Does anyone have ANY idea what the class times at Kingwood for the daytime classes are? I want the evenings but I know evenings are more saught after and there's only so many spots, I just want to know what I'd be looking at if I end up with mornings!!

Thanks! :) My little boy turns 5 in one month and I know how y'all are feeling. I work full time, but by the sounds of it, even when I'm not working.. nursing school will take up the same or more time than work does now

I just try to make the most out of the time I have with him and know eventually all this hard work will pay off!

It better pay off in the end!!

bugalove - from what I understood...and that is just what my ears heard-and sometimes they hear what they want to hear!! The director made it seem like the day program was from 12-3:30 on MW. The Night Program is 5-10pm MW. You only have lab once a week, so it seemed like the labs were from 5-7:30ish?? But I don't know if the whole nursing program would be at the same time. I wonder if the day program labs are like 10am-noon?

I am an Aggie, so I probably hear things wrong and mix up the things I hear :D

2 questions that hopefully ya'll can help me out with :)!

I took the HESI A2 last month as the entrance exam for the UT-Houston nursing program. Does anybody know if I'd be able to use my scores for the math and english sections I took during that time for when I apply at Lonestar?

If we're applying at both Cy-fair AND Kingwood, do we need to fill out two separate applications?

Thanks everyone and Good luck :D

I think you have to have the school send over your scores to Lonestar. And when you apply, the screen allows you to choose a 1st choice campus and 2nd choice, so you don't have to fill out 2 separate applications.

I want to know everyone's scores!!! Don't be shy

At the Cy-Fair info session we were told that if you take the HESI elsewhere, you have to have the scores sent to the school directly from Evolve. They will not take it from you personally and I'm pretty sure, if I remember correctly, they will not take it from another school either.

You should be able to contact Evolve directly and have them send the scores to Lone Star.
