Lone Star Spring 2011

Published

Okay, for all of us that did not get into the Lone Star Fall 2010 program and are trying again for the Spring...here we go again.

I'm retaking AP2 this summer (I have a B so now I want an A) to increase my points. After that I just don't know what else to do because I have all co-reqs completed, CPR done and Immunizations done. What are your plans to increase your chances of getting in for the Spring?

Yay! Can't wait to put a face to the screen name:)

You are younger than me ;) (and apparently if you were born before 1980, they didn't have a live virus or something weird that they say people should get a booster) and I didn't have my shot records anywhere, so I just decided to get all of them re-done.

They gave me: 3 doses of HepA/B combo, 2 doses of MMR, 1 Tdap and 2 doses of Varicella

...all for the grand total of $20 including the TB test.

Ha, what makes you think I'm younger. I'm 34, going on 35 this October. :) I had chickenpox already, I wonder if I need the Varicella? I was going to take my little shot book (very lucky that I have that...not sure how I've kept a hold of that!!) with me to my doc and have him fill out that shot form. I guess I will find my closest health clinic as well!

Yes, can't wait to put a face w/ names.

oh geez! Well, I think my knees hurt like a senior citizen so I will take the older card!

I can't believe you actually have your shot records...mine is probably somewhere in a baby book hiding in the attic or non-existent.

I have the paper from the clinic right here and it reads: "anyone who is not fully vaccinated, and never had chickenpox, should receive one or two doses (28 days apart) of chickenpox vaccine. The timing of these doses depends on the person's age. Ask your provider."

I never did ask them at the clinic about it because I just told them to give me anything and everything that they had in their cooler!

Hey Kyla...wish you were here tonight and applying to kingwood :)

I wish I was too! I feel so lonely over here at Cy-Fair. :p

I just got my last Hep B shot yesterday and YOWZA! That one stung! My arm is killing me today! I'm just glad that I have pretty much everything done and ready to go. Just gotta wait on this silly PE course. :p Hopefully the CNA course I start next week will keep me busy until then.

How are all of you taking Pharm doing? I start that next week too. Busy next 6 weeks for me!

So I went to the application online and it does fill everything out for you (scores etc.), you can make corrections to general info such as address, email, etc. Then you submit your corrections, print both your score sheet and application, sign, date and turn in to the campus that is your first choice. Pretty simple. So excited!! :)

Does anyone know if I can turn in my application before I get my cpr card (as long as I have it upon admission)? Everything else I need to do is done.

jpinkard - are you going to the info meeting tonight as well? I am turning in my application today! I don't think we have to show CPR cert??

Did you go to the Cyfair website to do your application? It said on their site that a "student academic profile" had to be submitted as well?? I keep trying to call kingwood to see if we need to print off our record, but nobody is answering...got any clues?

jpinkard, I was told that we do not need CPR certification for the application process just have it done before we start.

Kyla, I am in the PE course right now, ha! I actually have to go tonight (after the info session) to do my physical final so I don't have to go tomorrow evening. Fun fun!

Yes I am going to the info session tonight!

I don't know anything about a "student academic profile" needing to be submitted, mine said print out application and score sheet, along with proof of at LEAST first HEP shot.

Hope this helps! Looking forward to see everyone!

We will be out in Texas for 7 days. We are planning on renting a house for a year while we get a feel for the area. We are looking at renting in The Woodlands but We aren't moving out until late fall/early winter. I'm applying to both Kingwood and CyFair so that seems to be in the middle (at least on my map!).

I am hoping to do some "fun" stuff while we're down. Was thinking about heading out to Galveston and checking out some fun waterpark! I keep hearing about the humidity...it's making me sweat just thinking about it! Chicago is surprisingly humid in the summer time so **hopefully** it won't be too large of an adjustment.

Wish I could be at the info session with y'all tonight! I am taking a CPR class tonight. My towns fire department gives a Red Cross CPR thing for free so I'm hoping it will work...if not I guess I'll just be extra CPR ready!

Can't believe the time is so soon!!!

Good luck at the nursing session. :yeah::yeah:

jpinkinard,

Could you email me the HESI questions you have on your hard drive. I would greatly appreciate it. My email address is [email protected]

At tonight's Lone Star Kingwood campus information session, we were told that the Quest program will not start in January. The earliest that it might start is summer 2010.

What other options are available to students who can need an online program with weekend clinicals? Delmar and TAMU in Corpus Christi have an online program, but I'm not clear as to when they have clinicals. HCC's evening program doesn't really work for a working person because classes can start as early as 3 p.m.

bugalove - you will love the woodlands, there is so much to do there for families and adults alike. It would probably take you about 30 min to get to Kingwood depending on how "far in" the woodlands the house is. I'm thinking (in my opinion-but I haven't ever been out to the cyfair campus) that it's a little further. May take you 45 min or so depending on the traffic...and again, where exactly in the woodlands you live.

There will be plenty to do when you get here! Just don't think our beach is like miami or anything...the sand is brown, not white :D

I went to the info meeting (standing room only)...Michelle, were you there? I have some anxiety now because the director said 2009 applicant cut-off was 11.5 and 2010 was 11.6  I'm not going to go back and try to get another 1.5pts on the HESI...knowing me I would do worse.

So...now there's really nothing to do but wait it out until october
