Hello everyone!
I just wanted to start a new thread for kingwood/cyfair applicants. This is the moment I have been waiting for for 2 years! I will be turning in my application when I return from vacation next week. My score is at 11.489 as of yesterday! I took the Hesi....again....yesterday
and will be going on vacation Mon. I don't think my score has gone in yet either.
Anyway...I'm hoping that my score will be good enough for this time around. What was everyone elses score? I think the cut off the last couple years has been 11.4.
I have created this thread because I know that this site has been extremely helpful for me! And I want to return the favor for whoever else is applying or working towards applying! Also, in order for us to chat or whatever else while we are waiting soooo long for a letter!
If ANYONE has any questions...just ask and I will try the best of my ability to answer it. I know quite a bit about this program, so I'm sure I can help in some way! :heartbeat
Congrats to all that were accepted into Kingwood. It's a great program.
You'll attend the spring semester and have the summer off and start up again in the fall.
Also, somebody asked about drug screens at Kingwood. At kingwood, they did the screening during one of our lectures early on. Some company was there when we arrived for class.
I was accepted at Kingwood. My points were 11.9189. I am planning to take the Tuesday/Wednesday day class, Tuesday evening lab and Thursday clinical, if I get my first choice. Congratulations to all who got in and looking forward to meeting all of you. Anyone else planning to go on to BSN bridge through the University Center when we are done? That is my goal. I look forward to meeting anyone who is going to the Nov. 11 orientation!

I am new to this website but it seems so helpful already.I amapplying in January for Fall of 2010 and wanted to know the steps I should start taking now to prepare. For example like when do I take my Hesi test?

Here are some helpful things you should know before you apply.First, I can not stress to you enough how important it is to have ALL A's in your pre reqs. (Eng 1301, Gen Psych, and Anatomy I OR II.) If you do have a B in any of them, I recommend trying to get the A before you apply. Maybe in a Winter Minimester. Where are you applying? If you've done all that, your on the right track. The HESI is offered ONLY during app periods. There is no way that you can take it before then, so you will have to make it count as you can only take it ONE time for each application period. Being you have all A's in your pre reqs, for any program, you need at least an 85% on the reading part. Because Montgomery only accepts 40 students, I would try for higher than that!It depends on which program your trying to get into....(Kingwood, Montgomery, etc.), to do with things prior to taking it. For example, for Kingwood, you have to print a testing ticket, the take it to the school and pay for the test which is $25, then bring that reciept and ticket the day of the test. Montgomery is not the same. You simply pay for the test and take the reciept the day of the test. At least that's what I had to do.
If you have other questions, I'll be glad to answer them.

Congrats!! My first choice was Mon/Tues day class with Wed clinical. I plan on doing the BSN bridge program. Have you looked into that much? I went there to try and talk with someone and her response was...."Are you an RN?.....Come back when you are...." She was just rude. I didn't know anything about it and wanted to know so that's what I was trying to figure out!!! lol anyways...all I know is the classes needed for it which I took a few these past couple semesters. What do you know about it?

I'll be at the Nov. 11 orientation also. I requested Mon/Tues evening lecture and Mon evening lab with Sat clinical. I also plan on doing the RN-BSN program through the University Center/Prairie View. I've already taken all the BSN academic prereqs (the ones that aren't nursing curriculum). After I get my 6 mos full time experience as an RN, I'm going to go straight back to school to get that BSN!

You wouldn't register for the HESI until they post the dates the test is available during the application period. So if you're applying for Fall 2010, the application period would be sometime between January 2010 and March 2010 and that is when you would register to take the HESI. I would contact your first choice campus and find out what the process is for taking the HESI there since your scores will be available for all the campuses to view anyway. The application will have a place for you to rank your preference for the campus you want to attend. They go down the list starting with those with the highest scores and when they get to your name they will see if space is available at your first choice then second choice and so on until all the spaces at all campuses are filled.

Yes, what she said. You will only be able to register and pay for the HESI during that time. I would be brishing up on my Reading if I were you. A lot of people have taken it more than once and know what to expect. Also, I would definately find out everything you possibly can about the different campuses. I think Tomball, Montgomery, and North Harris are the only ones that apply during that time (Jan 2010). Find out how many students are accepted, what the cut off has been the past couple years, etc. Also, your other classes WILL NOT help you get in. They go by a very strict selection criteria and the info that is in those three blocks is what you need to worry about. If you wanna get in the first time, I highly recommend you re-take that class you got a B in. Or else your going to have to make sure you get a 100 on that test. I promise this is NO LIE and that B will affect you, believe it or not! A lot of people blow it off, like well it's a B, it can't make much of a difference, but it will. I know someone that didn't get into Kingwood because of a B in Eng. It stinks, but all of campuses are very competitive! Where are you applying?
Your doing the right thing by asking questions like this. The nursing info sessions are really good about going over everything with you as well. That's where I learned it all. If you can I would do that. I know it's a lot of stuff to know. Hep B shots...have you had them?
Just waiting...I thought I would for sure get in with 11.4044, but I'm an alternate. I spoke to the director and she said, she thinks I'm 4 sure getting in so she gave me the other info on drug screen and background check. That was good news! I pray that I get in and I also pray that my :redbeathesister gets in 2. We know we're gonna be nurses just don't know when. Congrats to all that are accepted! This is the beginning of your success journey. GET READY!

I'm not sure how that works, but I do know that once you are finished some employers have benefits to pay for more schooling or your last year of school. Alot of my friends received sign on bonuses when they started.
