You absolutely cannot. I ran into difficulty because I had my finances all lined up to not work for the year, then the economy changed and I had to go back to work; I tried to do both for a few weeks, but it was absolutely impossible to keep my grades up and do all the clinicals (and you have to do 2-3 twelve hour clinicals per week plus care plans). Long story short, I had to transfer to a regular program at another school because I had no choice but to work. For the UT fast-track program, when they say you can't work, they really mean you can't work. You are taking 20 credits of very, very competitive courses each of three semesters. Your day will be measured in hours, and you will end up resenting each hour taken away from study for anything else. You will have to plan your time very carefully, and be sure to warn your family that you won't be available for cooking, cleaning, outings and all the other things we take for granted. I don't say this to discourage you, but to be real with you. The program is a great program, but it takes 110% dedication for that 11 months. Hope this helps as you make your decision, and good luck in your choice.

Lone Star Kingwood 2010
I was accepted at Kingwood. My points were 11.9189. I am planning to take the Tuesday/Wednesday day class, Tuesday evening lab and Thursday clinical, if I get my first choice. Congratulations to all who got in and looking forward to meeting all of you. Anyone else planning to go on to BSN bridge through the University Center when we are done? That is my goal. I look forward to meeting anyone who is going to the Nov. 11 orientation!

I too am waiting on financial aid and scholarship information. I called on Monday, and was told that letters will go out the end of this week or next week. I honestly have never seen a school that cut financial aid this close, but I guess there is nothing I can do about it. It has made me very stressed, too, just like all of you. I talked with a woman in the generic program yesterday, she's starting semester three, and she said there is a very nice and caring professor, and I believe we have her for pathophysiology. Has anyone gotten their books and started reading?

Not yet, as I have to get final grades for this semester before I can register. I believe I will register while I am at the school for orientation. I'd like to know what to wear too. Hopefully, comfortable. I have to go straight to the airport after and fly for 10 hours for my vacation to the UK. Yay! I'm really looking forward to that!

That sounds great. So we actually can schedule vacations like normal people? That is wonderful! I was afraid it would be a lot rougher. I'm sure we have homework over breaks, though, right, like reading assignments?

Se7en14 I live in the Woodlands, and I would love to carpool. Are you in the Facebook group? We could talk about it there.

Ellie Bell, Here is the link: http://registrar.uth.tmc.edu/SOC/Class_Search.asp?Search2=New+Search If it doesn't work, I went to the SON website, clicked current students, clicked Schedule of Classes, then chose nursing, summer, and scroll down. Hopefully the schedule is correct! The office said it should be.

Mine has two holds, criminal background check and registrar's. I checked with SON today, and the criminal background check is a double hold for background check and drug screen. Should clear soon. The other is because I haven't finished all pre-reqs and they don't have a final transcript for spring semester. This will clear as soon as they receive the final transcript and we can register late, so again, no worries. Maybe your holds are because of these factors?

RNHouston09, Thank you, thank you, thank you. You have helped so much. Yes, I've worked with blackboard a lot; taken a lot of courses in it and have taught in it for 3 years, so if anyone needs help with it who isn't as familiar, I would be glad to be a resource. All my machines work with it just fine, and only the desktop is a dual core, so I won't worry any more about that. I don't know a thing about mac's so I'm afraid I can't be of help to anyone with mac's. Don't know if they interface well with Blackboard. I know my students who have had macs and had to turn papers in to me haven't had good luck unless they had the dual operating system that can do Windows, and therefore Office. I had planned on contacting the professors by email in a week or so. There seem to be several listed for each of our classes on the online schedule. The one on top would be the lead teacher, right? Thanks for the advise on bus vs carpooling, too. And knowing how often we go to campus is very helpful too. I'm like you were; I have absolutely no idea what to expect, so every bit of advise is a bonus. Thanks so much for taking your precious spare time to answer our questions!
