Lone Star Kingwood 2010

Published

Hello everyone!

I just wanted to start a new thread for kingwood/cyfair applicants. This is the moment I have been waiting for for 2 years! :nurse: I will be turning in my application when I return from vacation next week. My score is at 11.489 as of yesterday! I took the Hesi....again....yesterday :D and will be going on vacation Mon. I don't think my score has gone in yet either.

Anyway...I'm hoping that my score will be good enough for this time around. What was everyone elses score? I think the cut off the last couple years has been 11.4.

I have created this thread because I know that this site has been extremely helpful for me! And I want to return the favor for whoever else is applying or working towards applying! Also, in order for us to chat or whatever else while we are waiting soooo long for a letter! :banghead:

If ANYONE has any questions...just ask and I will try the best of my ability to answer it. I know quite a bit about this program, so I'm sure I can help in some way! :heartbeat

U r 100% correct...sorry if I offended anyone. I didn't think of it as being offensive, but now when I read it, I see that it is very..sorry again

I have a question for anyone who got accepted to Cyfair. Did anyone receive any information about the drug testing? I received the form for the fingerprint/FBI criminal background check, but nowhere does it mention anything about the drug test. I was wondering if I was missing a form or if everyone else was in the same boat? Thanks for the help :D

No I'm sure they will give us that info at the orientation because it isn't time sensitive.

my score was 11.49.

Congrats again to all that got in! I will be going during the day Mon and Tues lecture 12:30-3. Mon lab 10-12 I believe. Then clinical on Wed.

Also, there was a typo....on mine at least...the lecture days are Mon/Tues....not Tues/Wed. I spoke with someone there, b/c I confused as to how the heck we would fit in a clinical during lab and lecture....according to the days I need anyways and she told there was typo. So you may want to take that into consideration when chosing your days. See yall at orientation!!!! WOOHOOOOOO!!!!!!!

For those that didn't get in......you WILL!!! Don't get discouraged! I really really really recommend that if you have any B's or lower in A&P I or II (they will take the better grade), English, and Psych....to retake it to bring your GPA up so that you can have the whole 4 points in that block! Or get a perfect score on the reading part of the Hesi. If the problem is the Hesi, when you get your results back after taking it, on the back it should show which paragraphs and the numbers you missed. I highly recommend you get with someone who has taken it and discuss those paragraphs. This is something you probably need to do right after the next test so that it is still fresh in your minds. That is what I did....and it helped soooooooooooo much! It really took two heads for me to know where I was having the problem! Stay positive!!! Yall will get in!

As for LVN....if at all possible....I would go straight for ADN and skip the LVN. It is getting pretty tough for LVN's trying to find jobs now-a-days. I have a friend who is and it was extremely hard for her. I'm taking Micro right now and have several LVN's in there who are going back to school for RN, not saying it is difficult for them, however, many LVN's end up going back anyways! Go for the gold! God will not give you more than you can handle!!!! That's only my opinion though. If there is absolutely NO way you can do ADN, then it's really not an option. You are asking opinions, so you must have an option. I say go all the way! Good Luck!!!

Thanks Coulter630! I was a bit confused and was just about to call someone at the school until I read your post.

I got into cy-fair and did not recieve anything in my letter about a drug test. I received info about fingerprinting, a paper about insurance, and a page to sign my intent to attend the program... that's all...I think.

Does anyone going to cy-fair know when our classes and clinicals will be? Do we have to wait all the way until Dec. 3rd to figure this all out? I'm just wanting to know what my schedule will be like so I can arrange proper childcare. Any help would be appreciable.

I think I might email them because it would be nice to know. I'm in the same boat with figuring out childcare so I would like to have some kind of idea. The orientation is Thursday, December 3 if you were wondering.

any new and scores to add to the list? I'm in a tough spot and not sure if i should retake my hesi for next application period or not. After I retake my psyc class over and get an A, I will have a 11.478 (scored 86.96% on the reading part) and that is right between the cutoff and getting in area. I'm trying to decide if i should retake the hesi also and try to get a better score, but reading/grammer is not my forte. I have no problems in math however (got a 98% 1st time i took it and a 96% the 2nd time). If only i konw exactly what the cutoff was for the last year and this year and what the alternate score were.

ohh and please keep me/updated on what go on for alternates. I have no clue how that part works so any insight would be great.

Thanks

hey you guys does anyone know of how to apply for grants?

First you fill out the fasfa and it will tell you if you are eligible for grants or loans or whatever. Then you fill out some info at the school you are going to. The money is credited straight to your tuition balance and they give you any excess. For Cyfair the application period for Spring Scholarships was October 15. Get that free money if you can. It helps alot. Let me know if you have any questions because I have been in and out of financial aid.

For those that were accepted into Kingwood; do you know if we will be attending classes over the summer?

Hopefully, we will be given a complete schedule of the program in orientation. My Records shows my estimated complete date as 5/11/2011 but that seems early.

Thanks. Do you happen to know know anything about the work force? I was talking to this girl that is in her second year of nursing and she told me that if i work part time, that work force could help me pay some of my tuition. How whould I go about that?
