List of good practice books for nursing school?

Published

Hi guys!

Ill be starting nursing school soon & was just wondering if anyone has suggestions of GOOD practice books. I personally learn best when I answer a bunch of questions on materials I just learned. Or if you have any good recommendations of particular quizlet I should look up or key words to type in on quizlet, that would also be very helpful!

Any advice you really have interms of succeeding in nursing school & doing well on exams or things you wish you knew before starting nursing school would really help! Thank you!! ☺️

I would recommend checking out what resources you already have- does one of your textbooks come with a question book? Does it include an online resource with a quiz bank? Does your school do ATI which has kids of practice questions in each book and online? I would utilize those then see what additional resources you may need for areas that are weak.

Check if your textbook has online resources! Most of mine had them and they helped me get into the style of questions they ask. My school highly recommends buying the green cover Saunders comprehensive NCLEX review (I think it's the 7th edition) and the Red Hesi comprehensive review (5th edition). They cover all the subjects you'll learn in your nursing school from fundamentals to psych to OB to gero and if you buy them new they come with the access code online with even more questions! Also for when you take your exit Hesis for your classes, yourbestgrade helps although not everyone agrees.

Saunders is pretty much the only legit NCLEX practice book that has hard questions you will see in your exams.

ATI is good too if your school makes you pay for it.

As for advice, nursing school isn't that hard if you stay on top of things. Read the powerpoint/chaptet before class is the best way to be ahead. I'd also suggest applying to be a CNA/Nurse Extern at a nearby hospital for more clinical experience, something I wish I did. (and you get paid).

Success books were really helpful to me, studying by doing questions helped me a lot. You must read every rationale to have a good understanding. My school used ATI so ATI books were helpful. I also watch Cathy Parks on youtube to further help me understand materials. Quizlet was good too but I don't rely on that.
