Okay, y'all. In spite of what some people will say, your use of language will influence what people think of you, and how intelligent and/or competent they think you are.

My current number one: You don't LOOSE your license, you lose it. (If your license is loose, you need to capture it...)

Don't even get me started on loosing YOU'RE license...

What are other some other linguistic "nails on chalkboard" for folks?

I also worry about the future of our nation's literacy, but unfortunately we have probably already lost the battle due to text speak. You see one instance of improper use of they're, their and there or it's and its and the misplaced apostrophe, and everybody else follows suit. I can't even describe how I feel about the loss of cursive writing. There's a new generation of people out there who cannot read cursive because it's not being taught anymore. How sad!

Canadians ARE Americans.......

I am in Canada right now. They do not refer to themselves as Americans. I have been asked many times this week by residents of this country if I'm Canadian or American.

perhaps they lack the provinciality rampant in the USA

Hey, I've seen that font

Go to pretty much any country in the world and ask the question "What country do 'Americans' come from?" 99.9999% are NOT going to say "any country in North, Central, or South America." They are going to say that Americans come from the USA. It's just silly to insist otherwise. Right or wrong, it's people from the USA who are referred to as Americans. Sorry that offends.

I intensely dislike the term The Americas as though we were all the same place, because we are not. North America, Central America, and South America are three distinctly different entities.

And what are your thoughts about "all y'all"?

I love it.

Him and me did whatever. No. He and I did whatever.

Or she and he did but her and him did not.

People "that" do whatever, instead of people "who" do whatever.

When people say they "Seen the article". No, you SAW the article.

I have a degree in English in addition to my nursing credentials and I sometimes cringe at what I read from both nurses and doctors. I guess basic grammar is not as important as it used to be. Maybe we should "bring it back"! LOL!!!

No problem, since i am not upset that I offended you! we all need to grow.
