Linfield Spring 2021 Cohort

Linfield 2021 Spring Cohort Application

Published

Hi y'all, I haven't seen a post on the Linfield 2021 Cohort application so I thought I'd go ahead and create one. I am kind of nervous about this application because I have a little bit of experience (about 3 weeks) working as a caregiver and I have not completed all the prerequisites (I have one Chemistry class in progress which I am taking this Summer term). Here's my stats so far: 4.0 A&P series, 4.0 science lab courses (Microbiology, A&P series, nutrition, Chemistry/biology), no volunteering experience and 2 references from professors. I am kind of scared that I would not get selected about of these reasons... would you guys mind sharing y'all stats also?

Really? It doesn't say that anywhere on the application though. I got mine from nurses I've worked with. Hope that does not knock any of us that didn't do that.

I don’t think they’re gonna be that strict about it.. so you should be good ?

Any updates?

Nope.. I wonder when we can actually expect them.

Hi guys!! I’m an applicant too and have been patiently waiting and reading your messages all day so I thought might as well chime in with my stats!

I have a 4.0 in A&P, 4.0 in lab sciences, 4.0 in overall prerequisites, and a 3.9 from a previous bachelor degree in graphic design. I don’t have any volunteer experience however :/ but I did live-in caregiving for my grandma with dementia for three years. I’ve been working as a CNA for about a month, but at the time of application, my CNA was only in progress.

I asked a lot of these questions you guys are asking during my online counseling session several months ago and here’s what I remember: I believe they rank (in importance) A&P GPA, overall prereq GPA, lab sciences GPA, then overall transfer GPA... then they look at work experience, volunteer experience, and references.

I do remember asking if the references needed to be professors (because I hadn’t worked in the healthcare field at all at that point so it was kinda my only option besides old bosses) and they said they STRONGLY RECOMMEND at least one reference of the two be a professor.

I asked about applying to both this program and the accelerated program since I qualify, and got this info: since the Spring 2021 is more competitive (with more overall qualified applicants), if I were to be accepted into the Spring 2021 cohort, I would be allowed automatically defer to the Summer accelerated program without reapplying. So maybe some of you guys would be in that boat too! This is the route I would end up taking, so in other words I’m not truly competing for a spot in the cohort with you guys since I would just end up deferring if I got in anyways.

Best of luck to everyone!! :)

Hi Erica,

so if I understood you correctly, you said that you didn’t apply for the Spring 2021 because you already have your bachelors? Am I understanding you correctly?

Hi Geroge ?

No, actually, I did apply for Spring 2021 and am waiting to hear back today. I did this because acceptance to this cohort would mean automatic acceptance into the accelerated program (according to Kristie in my counseling session). I say I’m not “competing” with you guys for a spot in this cohort in the sense that if I were accepted, I would defer to the accelerated program, and then they would just take in someone from the waitlist to fill my place for the Spring 2021 position. Hope this makes sense! I was told in the counseling session that this is totally OK to do ?

It's kind of reassuring hearing this. If they told others this, maybe a decent portion of the waitlist will be offered admission!

Quick question that I think I forgot to ask: so you said that the GPA was ranked in this order:

A&P > prerequisites GPA > science GPA.

the reason I asked is because I believe Kristie told me it was more like: A&P > science GPA > prerequisites GPA. I am a bit concerned because I got all A’s in all my prerequisites besides this one writing class where I got a C+ that I took wayyy back so I hope it’s not gonna affect me too much!

I was told it's A&P, science then prereq. Also are you guys kind of giving up hope on the decisions tonight?

Same here... I mean I called them again and they said it would be tonight so I hope they will keep their promise

They just sent an email saying decisions would not be posted tonight but before or on October 9th!
