Linfield Spring 2021 Cohort

Linfield 2021 Spring Cohort Application

Published

Hi y'all, I haven't seen a post on the Linfield 2021 Cohort application so I thought I'd go ahead and create one. I am kind of nervous about this application because I have a little bit of experience (about 3 weeks) working as a caregiver and I have not completed all the prerequisites (I have one Chemistry class in progress which I am taking this Summer term). Here's my stats so far: 4.0 A&P series, 4.0 science lab courses (Microbiology, A&P series, nutrition, Chemistry/biology), no volunteering experience and 2 references from professors. I am kind of scared that I would not get selected about of these reasons... would you guys mind sharing y'all stats also?

It says here that the cohort starts each September, it did not state any other cohort dates

On NursingCAS when you apply you can choose the term... This is something new for OHSU. ?

Gotcha.. I started my application at OHSU just in case I wouldn’t get into Linfield. By the way, what was your stats like when you applied? I thought working as a medical assistant at OHSU would get you into Linfield

My undergrad GPA is haunting me! ? Overall 3.0, prereq 3.4, and post bacc of roughly 50 credits 4.0. My science GPA is also not helping me. Post bacc doesn't matter to Linfield.

My A&P professor advised me to apply to OHSU since they go off prereq GPA, and mine will be better (it's lower for Linfield, since I got Bs in my gen bio series, and OHSU doesn't include the bio/chem series in prereqs).

Hoping my essays, experience, and improved GPA get me in, otherwise I'll be moving to Illinois for 1.5 years. But, my professor did say I can apply for NCLEX in Oregon and just move back. ?

That makes sense. I don’t think OHSU looks at these 3 GPA separately so that might give you leverage. Plus, you work experience could also help out so I think your professor is right. Are you on the wait list at Linfield?

I decided to make this for future applicants wanting to get into this program. My biggest advice is that you should NOT care about other people's grades. Majority of people do not have 4.0s or a really high GPA. I didn't but I got in. I had personal problems that hurt my transcript. My A&P is a 3.6, my science GPA is a 3.4, prerequisite GPA is around a 3.45, and my overall GPA is around a 3.4. It is all about how you present yourself. Yes grades matter and you should strive to do the best you can, but not getting a 4.0 doesn't make you any less capable. I can guarantee that there are people reading this and thinking "how did she make it in??" but I don't care. I know that I am not my transcript and you aren't either. There are people that have extremely high GPAs and would make terrible nurses. I have about 700+ hours of work and volunteering experience, and got two nurses that I am close to to write kick *** letters of recommendation. Work with everything you have. If it's meant to be, you'll get it. Honestly, I would recommend not even looking at these threads. All it does is psych you out and make you doubt yourself.

I can’t agree more! Actually, when I went to OHSU for consultation on the BSN program, the consultant told me that last year they admitted someone with a prerequisite GPA of a 3.0. So overall I think that they evaluate applicants holistically, and grades do matter like you said, they are just not everything.
