hi all,

I got got good news for you all. First thing is first, I contacted the Carroll Gardens Neighborhood Association and spoke to the president herself regarding our situation who was outraged about the situation and said that this is unacceptable and she she will take action to help us in our cause. She gave me a lot of phone numbers of individuals from U.S. Senate, City Council, president of LICH, different news stations including the carrol gardens patch news. She said she will call all of them to notify them of this situation and told me to call them as well. Furthermore, she said we SHOULD DEFINITELY create a petition as well. I was already contacted by New York Post newspaper and gave them them our story. You can read all about it in tomorrows NY POST newspaper. He said it will be short though about 6 inch. in length since this is not exactly top breaking news but at least we will get the word out. I will keep you posted on all the news.

According to my source, I've heard that LICHSON is still going to take students for fall, but they have to get official notice from Downstate first and we should be getting letters next week or the week after.

I do not know what happened with the news story with post. I spoke with the journalist for abut an hour yesterday and he said he will run it today. Not sure why i cant find it either. i will try to buy the newspaper and see once again because not all information is available online.

Also, Today in the morining I have recieved a phone call from our city councilwomen Miss. Stroll. She is very kind and absolute pleasure to talk to. I have nothing but good things to say about her. Anyway, she called me in the morning and told me that she has spoken to (dont remember the name, sorry) and that person reasured her that the school is not closing and that all the nurses that are in the program will be given the chance to finish the school at which point I told her that thats great but the issue is regarding the new incoming students for the fall 2011. She made another call, the president of LICH, and he told her that the school is open and that they are deciding between two campuses where the nursing program will be held. Again I told her that the dean told us all differently and I am confused. Ms. Stroll told me to contact the dean myself to see whats goign on. when I called i was surprised to hear that the program is still in the air and she doesnt know if they are going to have Fall 2011 class. Moreover, the dean said that theywill know for sure by from SUNY by the end of this week. Afterwards I called our councilwomen again and related her what the dean told me. Ms. Stroll was very surprised that the dean and president have completly 2 different stories and is trying to contact the dean as we speak to find out what is going on with the Fall 2011 class. Ms. Stroll has my number and will call me as soon as she knows something. I think if she helps us it might be a good idea to all give lets say 5 or 10 bucks each and get her a nice present maybe a good bottle of wine or Cognac and present it to her from all of us as a thank you for helping us reach our life's dream of becoming nurses.

lately, there has been nothing but crickets here and this is really a bad time for silence. We need to be active every day. This is the most critical time for us right now. I monitor this site all the time up to around 2 or 3 am every day.

Furthermore, I have been talking to our councilwomen Anne Stroll every day. The latest news is that LICH DOES want to save the nursing program, its the Downstate that wants to see it burn in hell. Ms. Stroll notified me that the Dean told her that this Monday every applicant that applied will be send out a letter in detail regarding the entire situation so we will all recieve the letter some time on wednesday. Dont know weather it will be good news or bad. The letter will explain everything in great detail. Also, Ms. Stroll asked how come i m the only one that keeps calling her every day. I told her that I represent the entire group of Fall 2011 nursing students and speaking on their behalf. She told me that unfortunatly it doesnt work that way. She said that when she called the president of Downstate and of LICH as well as the dean they all asked one question. How many people are calling and are concerned about the nursing program. Ms. Stroll explained that I am calling her everyday but no one else. Ms. Stroll told me that its imperative that all applicants for Fall 2011 nursing program call the president of Downstate directly and the Dean of LICH everyday and demand that the Fall 2011 class not be cancelled. She told me that Downstate would not care about saving the program if only one person calls. They will brush me of like yesterday trash but if a lot of people start calling it would make a great difference. Strength in numbers. Ms. Stroll said that we HAVE A REAL SHOT IN SAVING THE SCHOOL IF WE ALL START CALLING. So if you all still want to go to LICH in Fall 2011 I sugest you start making phone calls. Call non-stop till you reach them. I am doing my part, are you doing yours? Only when we rise together as one we shall come out victorious. Its important that you all start calling the president of Downstate asap because he did ask the councilwomen, how come he is not receiving any calls from other students (except from me) and he said that if this nursing school is so important than he would get calls from other students as well otherwise he said nobody really cares if the nursing gets shut down. We need to show that we care. We have A REAL SHOT of winning.

I feel like I'm on another planet right now. I got in a few months ago and had an interview with the financial person a few weeks ago. I'm supposed to come back to see her this Monday. I had emailed her today stating my concern that I haven't gotten the transcript yet and she advised me to have it mailed to the school. She didn't mention anything about canceling my appointment tho. Why would she keep it if everything is up in the air and not I form me of what's going on.

I just found this forum and am totally shocked as to what is going on. I don't even know what to think right now.

This is the only school I applied to because it has the schedule that I can accommodate due to my full time job and it is close enough so my commute can be easier. I'm not upset that I may lose six months because I wont be able to attend this one but it's crazy cuz I took the pre requisite classes specific to this school. It took me three years to take eight classes and I am so upset that it may all have been for nothing.

I am very sorry that this situation is going on and hope it can be resolved.

The problem is that I'm sure a lot of ppl that got accepted have no idea what is going on because who would think to google something like this. I'm just in shock.

VegaStar88, you are missing the point. its not that you wont get in for Fall 2011, you might not be able to go to this school period. The nursing program is on the verge of closing. If you want to help us with our fight you are more than welcome. Call SUNY and LICH Presidents and complain to him that they cant close the Fall 2011 nursing program.

I get the point. Knowing the way politics work in this country I really don't expect anything to change for the better but bottom line I'm making other plans. I will contact those people and do what I can do to help. Doubt it will make an impact tho.

Good luck everyone who had applied and congratulations to those who had got in. I was in your position a year ago and once you get in the nursing program, it's going to be hard but it's worth it.

Hello All,

I have been really busy working lately but have been following the posts. Thanks Odessaboy for the efforts. I have tried contacting the office at Downstate of the president and Dominic Stanzione has been really busy, I will make sure next week that I will be talking to him next week when my boss has a meeting wit him. I rather talk to someone in person rather than through the phone.

Also I agree that this post has been really silent.

I have started writing a petition. Tell me what you guys think and please change if you like. (I think it needs work)

We, the applicants and supporters of to the Long Island College school urge the chief financial officers and presidents and those affiliated with Long Island College Hospital to scrap the idea of not accepting students to fall 2011 cohort

CeceStar5, that would be awsome if you could talk to the CEO of LICH. Wish I could talk to him personally as well. You be sure to tell him that there are a lot of us that are going to call him non stop unless he saves the Fall 2011 program. Also it is also very important that you try to reach the president of Downstate as well since he is the one that is trying to pull the plug. Our Counsilwomen Ms. Stroll advised me that he asked how come noone is calling him regarding the Fall 2011 nursing class if the applicants are so concerned. So its important as well. But what you are doing is a great start and good job. I am hoping everyone is going to start making phone calls just like we are doing it.

Also, I think the time has come to start signing the petition. Its critical that we start doing it asap and send it to presidents of both schools as well as other officials. We all need to meet up and personally sign the petition. If anyone feels unsafe in meeting up I have no problem what so ever doing it next to the police station so as anybody who is uncertain feels comfortable and safe.
