hi all !!
i wanted to start a thread for applicants for 2011 lichson, ill like to hear your process and just be there for all and go through the wait together. i know that hard parts are over with just the gruesome part is here WAITING! hope there some ppl out there going through the same thing as i
I read every post but have little time or none to reply... so many things have to reorganize: taking summer classes, applying to day cares and after school(camps) for my kids, changing schedules at work... go to work... this merger really messed up with my routine and plans...
I will come and sign the petition ( great job Cecesatar5)! You put our discussions and complaining on paper. The school must BE.
Great. Im glad you guys like the petition. I went to downstate today to talk to both the president and the chief financial officer, however none was available to speak to me. I left my name and number so hopefully i would hear something by wednesday. I will speak to those also by the end of this week.

Wow, thanks for your effort. I typed up letters to everyone that odessaboy said to contact and will be mailing them out today. At least the letters have a better chance of reaching their hands because getting to them through phone calls is really hard. Thank you, keep us updated.

Also, i am getting in contact with a friend of mine who had a very successfull story with ptitions and knows how to write them. I will contact him tonight and wirte the petition. You guys let me know f you like it.
P.S. I am thinking of getting a lawyer. I dont want them to get away with it. They must be held responsible for their actions. If we all cheap in, we can get a lawyer to help us. Who's with me?
So because I got my acceptance last year and deferred my spot, I automatically get a spot in the fall but I think it will be at downstate son but I'm not really sure. Everything was very vague and the registrar said she doesn't even know what's going to happen tl the school or the employees. It's a very gray area and no one knows what's going to happen at this point. She just told me to be patient and wait and they are doing everything they can to resolve everything and to be fair to everyone. So, no straight answer at this point, just to be patient.
Hi all,
I got some bad news. I have spoken to the dean today and there is OFFICIALLY NO FALL 2011 CLASS. Letters are going out today to inform everyone who applied of the bad news. So, what I was thinking is, **** the petition and I want to contact a lawyer and start legl actions against the school. Now since Downstate doesnt have associate program but do have an Accelerated BSN for those individuals that already have a bachelors degree ( which I do have) we can contact a lawyer and force them to transfer and accept us to Downstate Bachelors program for Fall 2011 program. So, for those of you here who hold a bachelors degree we can all meet up together and go to a lawyer to force them to accept us. It would be cheaper if we all cheap n than individually. So for those of you who already have a bachelors degree are you willing to go to a lawyer with me and fight?
I am at SUNY Downstate. Here is part of the problem. A school can not be transfered like a hospital can. The people at the top at SUNY Downstate do not have a clue. When the stuff hit the fan they realized they could not just transfer without proper Federal & State transfer. That could take at least six months to a year, maybe more. 6-8 months ago everyone told them and asked if the paperwork should be started. The top dogs all said no. The top dogs never asked and still don't have a clue. SUNY Downstate is running in the Red right now. Downstate said admissions had to stop due to the paperwork that has to occur to transfer a school. Then Downstate has to see "IF" this can actual happen based on the model LICHSON uses. SUNY Downstate does not offer any class to Freshman/Sophmore students. At LICHSON they use St Francis to teach classes. SUNY Downstate can not use St Francis and does not have lower level classes. Downstate is only for 3rd & 4th year students who have meet all academic requirements. They do not teach any of the basic requirements. I am sorry but the best thing to do is start looking for another school to attend. This will not clear up for a Fall term at LICHSON.
In NYS the Department of Health controls hospitals, while the Board of Regents/New York State Department of Education controls schools/places of higher learning. Each have their own rules and proceedures for those seeking to open and or run something that falls under their control.
When Saint Vincent's Hospital Staten Island (Richmond) was sold the school of nursing did not go to the new owners, but was put up for a separate sale and Education Affiliates (the only enity interested) got it and the Queens location.
One qualification to run a school in NYS is the person/company or whatever must have a certain amout of documented experience in doing so. The new ower's of Saint Vinny's in SI did not (not that they wanted the school of nursing), so they couldn't just take over the program.
As the previous poster pointed out one simply does not get a school of nursing because you purchased the hospital. There is a process in seeking to transfer the school from the previous owner's to the new or whom ever and it appears that was either not done or did not start in time to prevent the problems being complained about here.
One problem I see is that SUNY Downstate already has a nursing program and it's employees are part of the SUNY system (if I'm not mistaken). To transfer a private nursing school (LICHSON) into the SUNY system would mean big changes for the employees. For one thing it would make them state workers will all the rights and protections accorded to that body including wage and benefit packages. NYS/DownState could try and leave the school as a private one, but not sure if that is legal or even possible. Personally if I were employed by LICHSON I'd be going for inclusion into the state work force. It opens up a larger world of chances, benifits and protection for one thing.
As I write this, I am really ****** off to what is going on with LICHSON. What the two last post stated are correct. For this reason there will NOT be a class for 2011. This is due to careless actions of those involved in the merger and those at LICHSON.
Those involved in the merger failed to realize(months before the merger) that the transition of the merger will greatly affect the LICHSON. From my understanding those decision makers did not do necessary paperwork to include the School of Nursing to transfer as the hospital did. Now current students and applicants have to pay for their careless mistakes. This is not fair to us, because we have taken precious time for exams, to get transcripts, and wait for them to get it together. Now we have to wait for them to give us our money back. For the students who are currently in the program, I was told that the school will make preparation for them to continue their studies at another institution. Is this fair to them? NO. What is going to happen when its time for them to graduate. Lastly what is going to happen to LICHSON staff? Why should they lose their jobs because of careless planning.
What I’m trying to say is that I think we should continue with the petition, not because they are not accepting applicants this year but the principle. They should have told us something months ago. Not at the last minute. I believe that us not saying anything is not helping the situation.
How do you guys feel about this?
I am enrolled and I did get my acceptance letter last year, so they have no choice but to stick me in to some program but at this point I don't even know how that's going to happen. The registrar didn't give me much information and said that lichson is under downstate now, whatever that means. The schedule I was told by the evening program teacher is not the one the registrar told me. She said mon-fri, 6-11. That is much more time than was originally stated. I am confused as to why the class schedule changed. Anyway, I still have no idea what's going on. Registrar told me to just wait and I will be contacted by Downstate.
The situation is unfair to all included in this mess. Lichson employees don't even know what's going to happen to them. It's terrible.

ok lol I did email her over the weekend asking if there is any news regarding the merger and if I should still come to my appointment and she wrote back: "I cannot answer any information at all about the merge. The appointment for today is to follow with your registrar folder correct!"
So let's see what happens tonight. I will ask her about this for sure and hope she has some sort of information for me. I did start looking at other schools and making other plans. Just can't rely on Lichson at this point.
