2018 Lice

I have a girl with chronic lice. Non compliant with treatment, and mom "can't make her do it."

Other parents are worried because she is on a sports team that has lots of close contact.

Thoughts on how to handle this?

Now, that's just mean.

Girl has a beautiful thick head of hair. I can't imagine treating it. Painstaking.

Does she think the chemicals are going to ruin her pretty hair???

No, she's had multiple treatments at home. I think she needs a Professional.

Thanks all, crisis averted... this time!!!

It's funny, I forgot to come back on here after my last day of work and tell everyone that my DD (4th grade) came home on her last day of school with lice. I was like "Happy Summer Vacation to Me"! I managed to treat it completely with just combing daily for 2 weeks. Got out a few live ones and a bunch of nits the first combing, then only one live bug and a few nits the next day. Clean the next 12 days after that. First time I ever had to deal with it on a personal basis. Now that I have, I can at least stress to parents that the combing is really the trick. I mean, I tell them that all the time but now that I have first-hand experience I feel like I can share that as well.

Had that same trial las year. I, too, only combed with results. I feel for those girls with super thick hair, that would be a nightmare to comb. One of my students last year had a mom who just kept treating and combing infrequently. The sad reality is many families don't have the TIME to deal with this, what a sad indictment on our society.

My daughter came home a few years ago with lice and passed them along to Sweet Petunia and one brother. Since then SP keeps a metal lice comb on her bedside table. Combs most days of the week...for preventive purposes; so far she's never dredged up a bug.

She should try this!

We have gone to a don't ask, don't care attitude at the school. We encourage families to invest in a comb and do monthly checks. Don't care if you find them, don't really want to know. Woohoo! Liberating.

Exactly how I feel - It would be nice if my district went that route. I wish parents would just deal with it without all the drama - ok you found lice, treat it and move on since there is absolutely nothing I can do about lice here at school.

That is what the CDC and NASN recommend.

Unfortunately with Facebook and Instagram, I will hear stories where these parents post about their kid's lice, then I cam getting calls because someone saw their post, etc., etc., etc. Mind boggling a parent feels the need to tell the world their kid has lice, and then they get mad about "privacy violations" when some kid hears about it and asks.:banghead:

The title of this post cracked me up. I thought it was going to be about a new and improved "Lice 2.0"...

I really appreciate the humor, knowledge & wisdom from all of you on these forums!! You are terrific nurses!!
