Let's spice it up, MO!

Published

The Missouri board is soooo snoozy!! Let's make it a little more fun and active so I have something to look forward to when my babies are napping!

Tell us where in MO you live, why everyone should come visit your town/city (or shouldn't!), and a little about what area of nursing you're in or plan to be in.

I'll start:

I live in the 'burbs of St. Louis. What I love about St. Louis is the variety of activities, people, and neighborhoods. There's something for everyone, and it's a great place to raise kids. There are lots of great parks, museums (free ones!), a terrific zoo, and fun and funky places to visit, like the Loop, the Hill, South Grand, and the Central West End. I'm a big fan of St. Louis, so if you have any questions, let me know.

As for nursing, if I am accepted, I plan to start at Maryville's WEC BSN program in the fall of '08. I completed all of my prereqs at St. Louis Community College. I put my plans for nursing school on hold for a couple of years because I have two toddlers at home to chase after. I was a Spanish teacher for 6 years, which I loved, but I am thrilled about becoming an RN. Right now, I am thinking I would love to work in the NICU, but I will know more once I start nursing school.

Tell us something fun about yourself!

I am rather new to Missouri. We moved to Rogersville in February 2006 from Northern California. For those that don't know, Rogersville is about 20 minutes east of Springfield. It's a tiny little hole in the wall town, but we have a nice little furniture store and a Dollar General. What more does one need??

I started in nursing as an A.D.N....then right on to my B.S.N....now in my third semester of FNP school. I will be done with my FNP program in December of next year and hope to work either in women's health or neuro. I know...strange choices! I currently work in surgery at a small local hospital in Springfield. When in California, I worked OR and neuro.

Welcome, Jaimee! And a belated welcome to Missouri as well! I've never been to northern California (only been as far north as San Francisco) but I've heard fantastic things about the area. I'm looking forward to moving out of SoCal as soon as hubby retires or takes new orders. I'm from a small Missouri town and I miss the small town lifestyle so much!

Best wishes as you finish your FNP program!

I've not been on here too much. I am just taking one course right now just to have Maryville credits. All my prereqs are done. I am originally from this area but my husband was military and then a government worker so we've been a few places :).

My basics:

I am 30. Happily Married. Mother to 3 kids. Love Cardinal baseball. Love soccer. Love board games. Have been a SAHM for years now. Going back to college but only through the WEC program so I can be with my kids during the day. I am nervous. I should be starting nursing at Maryville in the Fall of 2008.

Kansas city peeps... Holla!!! Im from a suburb of KC. I always have to jump to and fro the KS and MO forums b/c we are right on the border. KCMO is better by the way. ;) I want to eventually live in a small town that is still w/in maybe an hour to an hour and a half from KC. I love small towns and would feel much better about raising kids in a small town. I know you cant shelter them for life... but I think there would be many more benefits to raising kids in a small town vs the city. I would want to be even further than that from the city; however, gotta have lots of family involvement with the kids too and they all live in the lee's summit area which is on the south eastern border of KC. Wow, I rambled a bit. I graduate in May with my ADN. Very excited!!! I have been trying really hard to get a student position at a hospital with no luck. I have extra bad credit though, thanks to nursing school, and so far all the hospitals do a credit check. I fear that is my reason for not even getting past the red tape. Hopefully when I actually have the RN title they wont care as much b/c they will be so eager to have a new RN on staff. Back me up here people! Im gonna be an awesome nurse and I cannot wait!!!

I can't believe it! I live in Rogersville too! I'm a little apprehensive about saying that on the internet, but it's just so crazy! I'm going to OTC, doing my pre-reqs starting in Jan. and applying for the nursing program for next August.

Right now I'm an in-home aide with Oxford. I think I want to stay with them after I get my nursing degree. I love working with the older patients and Oxford pretty much lets me work when I want. I may try to get on at St John's or Cox, because I've never worked at a hospital and I might love it. I'm just excited about becoming a nurse!

Well nice to meet someone else in this little town ;) Want to know something funny? I grew up in fordland, so Rogersville is like big-city living to me---I mean you forgot to mention there's a chinese restaurant and oreilly's!!!

Wow, when I found this website I didn't think I'd find anyone around my area. I'm also attending OTC for my pre-reqs! Hopefully, after this Spring I'll be applying to Cox and St. Johns for their nursing programs. Are you planning on attending OTC's nursing program? Like you, I also grew up in a smaller town..Mansfield.

Yes, I want to do the LPN program, work for a while and then do the RN bridge program. Everyone I've talked to says OTC has a really great nursing program and I looked at their pass rates and it's like 99% for the past 6 years. I'm actually taking my pre-reqs at the OTC-Richwood Valley campus in Ozark though.

I'm also going to Richwood Valley..that's crazy! I'm going there because I live in Ozark. Yeah, I have really been thinking about doing OTC's nursing program, but I'm a little apprehensive because the ASN program is new. I would like to because it is a lot cheaper than both Cox and St. Johns. Anyway, so what classes are you taking for Spring? I'm in A&P, Chem, Nutrition, and Math 110. I just finished Psych, English, Math 50, and History (I was enrolled before I new I wanted to do nursing, but will help toward BSN). You should PM me! It's good to hear from someone so close!!

Hi, BlessedMom!

Have you heard anything from Maryville yet? I check the mail every day, but nada. Are you still planning on attending in the fall if you get in? Good luck to you!

Hi all, I am from Warrenton Missouri. Am an LPN starting LPN-BSN online ISU program. I have 4 children and work full time as an office manager for an internal medicine physician. Anyone here looking to do this same course? If so, I would like to find a local study buddy. Good luck to all of you.

Hello Fellow Missourians :)

I live 20 miles south of St. Louis in a town that has recently been very active with adding new strip malls and such. I'm not too happy about that since I liked the town the way it was, but I'm not on the city council, so it's out of my hands, lol.

Anyway, I attend Lutheran School of Nursing off Jefferson. New student, still excited and happy to be there. I enjoy it a lot.

I have a part-time job at Nazareth Living Center as a Unit Clerk. New job, been working 2 weeks now and not sure if I really like it.... I'm more of a hands on type and want to get up and physically help patients, not sit behind a desk and mess with papers. :icon_roll

I've decided though, I'll give this job a chance ONLY for the paper work experience. I'm learning a lot about labs, doctors orders, MAR/TAR, etc. This time next year I plan on applying at St. Luke's as a PCT II - for my hands on. Then I'd like to work there as a nurse after graduation. :yeah:

I :redbeathe St. Louis! We moved to Steelville (out around Cuba, MO) about 6 years ago and while I liked living on land and the small town atmosphere I hated being so far from St. Louis, so after a year I was excited to move back! St. Louis offers so much and I love being 20 minutes away! My FIL wants us to move out to Poplar Bluff (he lives in qulin) but I just cant, I love St. Louis, I cant be that far away from it.
