hi everyone! i'm holli. i took boards on june 13th and passed with 75 questions. i am starting work on july 18th at the only hospital i ever wanted to work for. it is a great pediatric facility! i will be on the (post-op) surgical floor, and we also have all of the endocrine kids. also, they just added an epilepsy monitoring unit, for overnight monitoring and for the brain mapping they are doing. i expressed an interest in that, so they will cross-train me in that unit as well. i can't wait to get started!

so, tell me about you...

Post-op rocks! You'll love it:D

I remember those days as a kid with epilepsy and my dad taking me to some place in Tampa, just some little clinic. He would buy me a Coke which was strange as well. It made me sleepy. I always though in the back of my mind that he would leave me there, even though he never did. It was strange having all those wires stuck to me head with wax back then. Excuse me, time out for a crying section. OK. Still gets to me. That was a annual thing.

Guess I am writing you this because as a child you just never know what is going to stay with you and how it will effect you for the rest of you life! Be good to those little ones and make them feel safe.

Thank you.

I know what you mean about it being strange to have those wires stuck to your head with wax. Though I am 20 yrs younger than you technology has come a long way. I have a whole in one of the valves in my heart, I grew up with monthy ekg's and I remember back to being about 6 and having these little pink suction cups all over me.When they removed them it hurt and they left little red blotches resembling hickies.

hi everyone my name is jennifer and i took by boards on june 12th (the computer stopped at 75 questions) and didn't find out that i had passed until june 30th because the brn hadn't recieved my final transcripts. that was a long and stressful wait. and now as an official rn i am still unemployed and looking for a job, any job at this point. i really think that when they talk about the shortage of nurses they should really emphasize that there is a shortage of experienced nurses. as a new grad its slim pickings unless you were smart enough to apply really early while still in nursing school. oh yeah im also a wife and a mom of three girls, two of which were born during nursing school!! i am really glad to have found this forum.... i think that it is a great opportunity for nurses to support each other!

congrats tu all i will b posting here in 16mth lol

Hi. I'm a new nurse also, working in long term care. One of the first things I'd like to say is---buy really good shoes! The most comfortable cushiony and supportive pair you can get! They are an investment in your feet. You will be walking a lot and the floors are hard. A good pair of shoes or two is essential to good nursing! If you have any kind of special feet-wide, narrow, high or low arch etc., check out New Balance- they have special "lasts". Try nbwebexpress.com for instance and look under shoe lasts. Of course, there are other sites and companies. I have found this site most helpful for special feet! And congratulations to you all! (NOT AN AD!)

best of luck to everyone with their careers!

I've lurked in this column for a while now, but since I graduated Saturday, I suppose I'm finally (pending boards) in my first year of nursing! I interviewed today for the job I would really like to have, if I don't get it I have several other apps out there that I will start more aggressively pursuing. I would like to work critical care but will settle for med-surg for a year if necessary. Hello all!

Hi! I'm Suzanney! And I'm 17..

I feel like I don't belong here cos of my age but...I am very interested in nursing in a lot of areas just so you know. From the practical things nurses do to the study side of it. I think the very first reason why I want to nurse is because I want to take good care of my grandparents in the future years.Tthey are like my parents to me and I want to do something in return. (I'm blabbing on, I know..haha). But yes anyway, do you think that's a good reason? I also know very well that I am keen to assist others to better health. I've read many stories posted by nurses on here...and it's so heartwarming...the more I read, the more I want to become a nurse! Thanks for the inspiration, guys! Greatly appreciated.

Also..also. There is one quote I cannot get off my mind. I cannot recall where I read this but it goes along the lines of:

'Nursing isn't a job. It's a commitment.'

Mm...it's thought provoking. : D

Taking the nclex in sept o8 nerves are getting the best of me. they say attitude is 90 % of passing so I am getting one. good luck to all of you just starting school you will be fine and it will be over before you know it. one day at a time . :yeah:congrats to all who have passed nclex

Hi everyone!

I've introduced myself a number of times in a number of different forums on this site, but FWIW, here I am again...

Graduated in May from an Accelerated BSN program and started working as an RN two weeks ago at an acute general medicine unit. So far, I've worked with one of my two preceptors and start with the other (who's my primary) tomorrow. I love the one preceptor and my primary seems nice too... and the staff seems really supportive and fun. There's one other new grad who started at the same time as me.

One of the CNS's for the floor showed us a graph depicting enthusiasm and competence, stating that all new grads feel pretty low at around six months, and then mandated that we take a vacation in six months.
