hi everyone! i'm holli. i took boards on june 13th and passed with 75 questions. i am starting work on july 18th at the only hospital i ever wanted to work for. it is a great pediatric facility! i will be on the (post-op) surgical floor, and we also have all of the endocrine kids. also, they just added an epilepsy monitoring unit, for overnight monitoring and for the brain mapping they are doing. i expressed an interest in that, so they will cross-train me in that unit as well. i can't wait to get started!

so, tell me about you...

holli, rn

My introduction:

I was an LPN for 3 years prior to obtaining my RN license! yay! During those 3 years I worked General Medicine, GYN Oncology, and Long-term care per-diem. As an RN my first real job is on a Cardiac/Thoracic Step-down unit. I have been on the floor for a month. I am not sure that I like it. I am remembering all the reasons I left floor nursing a year or so ago. Trying to decide what I want to do....Sigh::: Oh well! Congrats to all you and good luck!

Hi all. I have been checking these boards all through nursing school. Graduated May '08 and passed boards July '08. I am looking for my first RN position at a hospital in northern nj. I have filled out many applications and it seems most things are done online with no contact with recruiters. Anyone have any advice for me? In my past career, it never took this long to get a job and things were done much differently (not totally online with no personal contact). Any advice would be most welcome. Thank you.:typing

Hi all!! I have also been lurking around here through nursing school. I graduated in May from a community college here in town and passed the NCLEX in July, woohoo!! I am in an orientation program (Versant) and was hired on a Med-Surg floor for nights. I don't start my night shifts though until September, and I am a bit nervous about that. I have never worked a night shift before, so I am super worried about my sleep schedule!

I love nights, in fact i worked nights 11-7a for 10 years in the lab and nursing 12 hours shifts are so much better, omg...love it

i work t,w,th in a cardiac step down unit and don't have to deal with docs, taking patients to mri, cathlab, etc...u will do fine on nights, i even oriented on nights for 6 months...good luck!

Hello Everyone,

I've posted a couple of posts in other forums but maybe this is where I should start. I graduated from nursing school in May, passed NCLEX in June and started working in July in as an Emergency Room Nurse. I was very nervous and sometimes I still am. It is exciting and so much to learn but so far so good.

Been working on a surgical unit (pre/post-op and some med pt's) sine Jan, just now getting into the hang of things. Been transitioning to a few night shifts (absolutely love it!). Day shift can be hectic and chaotic b/t PACU calling, receiving post-ops, and dealing with the MD, PT/OT, dietary, case manager's, D.planners, family...the list goes on:no: Congrats to all the new grads out there and good luck to those approaching NCLEX:yeah: Sorry for the long post, but got a lot to get out.

Hi, I just passed boards and am not sure where to find myself. I know I am in this shell of a body someplace, but I feel gutted. I am thankful that i have not left much time to sit around as I begin work next week on a neuro med surg floor. I am nervous yet some what excited to begin. I am not afraid to ask questions or work hard so that is where I am starting. I am glad to see this resource.

:yeah:

regimite congrats to you. I have been working as a gn for about 3 months on a orhto, med surg, and oncology floor. it is very exciting and scary at the same time. but you will do wee your biggest hurdle is jumped and now you will grow into your new role and learning will never end. you will have good days great days and days from @%^* you know where but just think those days make you stronger. good luck.

please think of me monday i will taking that hurdle (nclex) and i am scared to death my nerves well they are shot. i did kaplan, saunders and the many amounts of questions are well over 3000 most likely 4000 i didnt keep a real accurate count. i just dont feel prepared there are weak areas and if thats the test i get only my weak areas well i am doomed. wish me luck.

Hi and thanks for the kind encouraging words. NCLEX, the test itself wasn't as bad as I expected, when mine didn't shut off right at 75 I started to panic... had to collect my self, then, next thing you know. It shut off. so,,,, the waiting was the worst part, first day( the day I took the test), I kept busy and was pretty OK the second day, the doubt set in and I started freaking out. the third day my license # was posted on the state board of nursing site by 9 am and that is how I found out. :nurse: One of my professors of nursing said the best thing to me that really got me through the nervous part.. she siad, even if the results are unfavorable.... it is not the worst thing in the world, there are far worse things in this world. I hung onto that. I have a healthy supportive family and I could have overcome difficulty. I will keep you in my thoughts as i fill out the endless piles of paperwork on my 1st day, orientation. Good luck and blessings to handle whatever the outcome may be.
