Doesn't it just drive you insane when someone tells you that Mr. Smith's O2 STAT is 96%?
It's O2 SAT people! Sat, short for saturation. I even hear respiratory therapists saying this. I am sooooo tempted to say something next time, but I know it's just petty, so I needed to vent here. Thank you.
We were opposite. All my family is still there in Mass. Worcester area. When I talk to my grandmother she says that I have the accent.....lol I tell her no it's you.My kids drive me nuts when they pronounce mango with a short a,
Män-go, they get it from their mexican grandma that is how she pronounces it.
oh dear, woostah.....big hair, fish and sticks on friday....and the seven hills in the winter......
I love this thread, but does anyone else think it's funny that we're in such a hurry to correct the grammar and/or spelling of others that we aren't taking the time to correct our own posts??? For a bunch of grammar police, there sure are a lot of typos in here! (Not saying I am innocent, just that I think it's funny!)

yeah and god forbid you pronounce it "wor CHESTER" - holy hell!!! Every other place in the world it'd be that, but here, forgeta bout it!
Also in Virginia, Norfolk is Nor FU *k - not NOR FOLK, as you would think.
In Illinois, Peoria - is not "PEE-or-EEya"

I don't think the issue is spelling, but how words are completely wrong when spoken.... BTW, there's spell check, I just found - WAAAAAY on the top right, but you have to download it - ehr??

Hey...that pronunciation of Norfolk isn't a 'Virginia thang'...it is properly pronounced Nor-fik, same as the British county for which it was named in the 17th century. There's also a Suffolk, pronounced Suf-fik, also named for a British county.
Naw-fik...now, that pronunciation is a Virginia thang. Just like N'awleans is a Louisiana thang.

it is pronounced in that area as "NOR-FUK", not FIK. FYI. Same with Suffolk, SUF-UK

My EMS buds and I sometimes refer to it as the bam-ba-lance. Apparently that's even funnier when I'm driving it.
